Responsibilities
NBC5 and Telemundo Chicago are seeking to hire a Lead Media Specialist role to manage the day-to-day operation of a Dalet Galaxy newsroom computer system on shared servers. The successful candidate will be an individual who embraces new technology and is resourceful at developing new ideas for supporting our newsgathering efforts. The individual must be able to thrive in a fast-paced news environment meeting multiple deadlines while maintaining the highest quality of broadcast standards. They will provide frontline, hands-on support for clients (News, Digital, Creative Services) using a customer service approach and following procedures for documentation and escalation.
Responsibilities will include:
Day - to-day oversight of digital media on shared servers and overseeing media pushed into on-air playback systems.
Monitoring media storage free space, routine maintenance and purging of the system, troubleshooting problems reported by users and escalating issues to the IT department and vendors as necessary to resolve problems
Overseeing media pushed into Omneon playback servers
Providing instruction of system use to content producers, platform managers, and other users of the Galaxy system
Work closely with Managers in IT, Production and News Operations in oversight and scheduling of staff in Acquisition area.
Proactively work with newsroom leadership and staff
Engage in daily strategy, planning, editorial processes
Supervise and develop the team of Media Managers
"Hands on" operator capable of working across technical and News departments
Archive rundown elements for daily newscasts and verify integrity of files
Provide first class support and guidance to Newsroom staff
Become the "go-to" person for the Newsroom
Tier 1 Dalet system troubleshooting for users
Daily focus on editorial plan in support of News coverage
Basic Adobe Premiere editing
Perform ingest of topical media for same day air
Qualifications/Requirements
Minimum 3 years working with post production process (media acquisition to playback for air)
Minimum 2 years working knowledge in basic computer networking and operation and use of Microsoft Remote Desktop
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be willing to work in Chicago, IL
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
Must be at least 18 years of age

Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) preferred
Desired Characteristics
Knowledge of broadcast news workflows and technology: non-linear editing using post production software (Adobe Premiere), P2 ingest, video playback systems (Omneon) and file storage (Isilon), as well as transcoding of different video formats (Vantage transcoder)
In-depth experience ingesting, trimming, migrating, playing out and archiving news material
Knowledge of Vantage Transcoder, Omneon/Isilon storage devices, and Latakoo file transfers.
SD and HD broadcast signals as well as Dolby 5.1 audio
Strong knowledge of digital media file formats ( PSD, TGA, WMV, WAV, etc.)
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, as well as other digital production software such as Adobe Photoshop and After effects
Experience in Dalet software
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interface with all levels of management and user community
Self-starter who demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently with little supervision
Able to quickly learn a broad array of technologies and apply that knowledge to real-world problems
Effective performer under aggressive timelines and high-pressure situations
Excellent root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills
Understanding of Production Control Room workflow
