Job Description

Job Summary:

The Lead Linux System Administrator designs and develops server and data storage systems, processes and enhancements for company's complex high traffic, business critical and network-based (cloud) product systems. They will lead the design of enterprise storage environments, including enterprise storage arrays, fiber channel switches and Network Attached Storage (NAS) physical and virtual tape devices. This individual will provide solutions and processes for reliable and stable data storage management, security, backup, restoration, archiving and replication. They will also assist with the implementation of new or additional storage technology to improve infrastructure service locally and remotely.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

* Act as the Linux Lead and/or Subject Matter Expert (SME)
* Manage the release of new technologies as well as design, install, configures, maintain and perform system integration testing of Linux/server operating systems, related utilities, and hardware
* Generate and maintain system - technical and operational - documentation defining corporate standards, ploicies and protocals, and managing and implementing best practices
* Ensure system compliance and security, by analyzing enterprise level audit data and colabrate with other technical resources to provide recommendations and effect solutions
* Provide senior level technical support to FLIR's enginnering and R&D depertments, onsite support at our Billerica facility and remote support to the FLIR's global team
* Monitor reporting/alarming tools, KPIs, look for issues, errors, inconsistencies, anomalies, etc. to ensure nominal system health
* Manage hardware usage and projected short and long term requirements for local and global locations
* Work with other IT and Application teams in the company to deliver most suitable solution to users
* Coordinate the installation, configuration, patching and maintenance of Linux servers, storage and back-up systems in our secured data centers
* Perform additional system administration and troubleshooting duties as necessary

Requirements

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related fields. Or equivalent work experience
* At least 5+ years of experience in LINUX system administration, preferably within DoD contractor environment
* Typically requires a minimum of 3+ years of experience with IT network design and deployment, including operating systems expertise, such as installation, configuration, maintenance, patching, triage, and hardening
* Typically requires a minimum of 3+ years of experience with enterprise networks, including monitoring infrastructure and operating system-level
* Typically requires a minimum of 3+ years of experience Unix/Linux Shell scripting, Bash, Perl, Python and other languages
* Experience with centralized authentication technologies such as NIS and Active Directory domains in supporting (Windows/Linux) cross-platform clients is desirable
* Requires a high level of expertise in multiple system environments
* Demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills and ability to clearly articulate ideas, analysis, issues to team, stakeholders, and management
* Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN)
* Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
* Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude

Preferred Qualifications

* Linux proficiency with Microsoft Windows Server or Unix experience
* Manage disk space - resizing, memory in VM environment
* Monitoring SW (Lan Sweeper)
* Network / Firewall configuration
* Secure client communications - SSL, XWin, VNC, SAMBA
* Installed and upgraded patches, firmware, MP, GSP, BIOS and security
* Familiar with Debian and CentOS Linux distributions essential, Red Hat Enterprise experience a plus
* Experience administering/implementing Configuration Management with Chef, Puppet, etc
* Knowledge in setting up SSH, SCP, SFTP connectivity between UNIX hosts
* High Availability and data replication clusters on Linux
* Virtualization Technologies (KVM)
* Linux load balancer; knowledge of Linux cluster setup and troubleshooting
* Linux troubleshooting and tuning to identify & resolve high CPU, memory and disk I/O
* Able to work independently to solve problems
* Strong organizational skills
* Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently
