The Local Area Network (LAN) Engineer will work on the Global Unified Communications team minimizing downtime for Colgate's Global Data Center and Remote Site LAN. You'll maintain adequate redundancy into the network design while ensuring the network performance is aligned with business application requirements. You'll need the ability to analyze, diagnose and support or resolve issues as well as quickly implement changes to support a highly complex enterprise level LAN networking infrastructure consisting of multiple vendor platforms including Cisco, Checkpoint, Palo Alto, Blue Coat, F5, IBM, etc.

Principal duties & responsibilities

* Identify trends & provide improvement recommendations to the LAN design (DC and Remote Site), through analysis of available LAN technologies both current and emerging.
* Communicate & raise any P&R issues related to the LAN, provide thorough follow up and ensure that root cause is identified and addressed.
* Coordinate and make sure maintenance tasks are completed in a timely way along with the necessary testing to return systems to the end users at the expected time.
* Identify, support, and implement LAN projects for the Global IT Project Grid process that will ensure that Colgate continues to meet operational, Performance and Reliability, and budget targets.
* Update, Operate, Maintain & Support the LAN equipment, Software, Hardware & Wiring.
* Lead and implement MACD related to LAN requirements and CR / IR systems.
* Keep LAN inventory and tracking of lease replacement activity, as well as, support contracts for responsible equipment.
* Maintain and update all related documentation to LAN Infrastructure/Wiring design and configuration
* Tackle problems, guide and actively participate in any LAN P&R issues and/or break-fix issues and resolution, including being on-call to help to maintain agreed upon performance & reliability service levels
* Maintain and support of LAN based infrastructure in our Sterling Forest (Disaster Recovery) location
* Lead Unified Communications projects including building project plans, setting landmarks, and coordinating with our preferred vendors to ensure successful and timely implementation
* Utilize all network management tools including real-time and trend monitoring, capacity monitoring, system configuration logs and back-ups, authentication database to fix network issues
* Acts as technical liaison to Colgate's network business partners that supply managed services and equipment for our LAN environment to ensure the integrity of the Colgate network.
* Provide consistent and frequent status updates on issues to the management team
* Maintain hardware for Proxy / Firewall / Load balancers housed in the Colgate Data Center

Basic qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Communications or equivalent.
* 4+ years IT experience
* Experience in a large & complex IT support environment
* Experience with Cloud environments - GCP/AWS/Azure
* Experience with Cisco Nexus and Cisco Catalyst switches
* Basic routing knowledge
* Customer service OR business interaction experience
* Strong design, project management, and documentation skills

Preferred qualifications/certifications

* Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
* Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP
