Job Description

The LAN Administrator's role is to ensure proper LAN operation so that end users can accomplish business tasks. This includes daily support incidents, desktop and server troubleshooting, hardware/software installation, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving end user help requests. Problem resolution may involve the use of diagnostic and help request tracking tools, as well as require that the individual give in-person, hands-on help at the desktop level.

Position Responsibilities

* Prioritizes and schedules problems
* Escalates problems (when required) to the appropriately experienced engineer
* Applies diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting
* Accesses software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and frequently asked questions resources on the Internet to aid in problem resolution
* Identifies and learns appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization
* Performs hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications
* Performs preventative maintenance, including checking and cleaning of workstations, printers, and peripherals
* Tests fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved
* Performs post-resolution follow-ups to help requests
* Performs other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

* College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or equivalent field and/or 2+ years of work experience
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills
* Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills
* Strong documentation skills
* Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required.
* Ability to absorb and retain information quickly
* Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language

* Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

Technical Requirements

* Proven experience administering a LAN/WAN - TCP/IP environment using Windows 2012, 2016, 2019
* Experience with desktop and server operating systems, including Windows 10, prior migration experience is a plus
* Ability to deploy home networks including cable modem and DSL w/ a Linksys firewall and VPN software
* Symantec Antivirus or similar Software
* Working knowledge of Internet email (smtp, mx records troubleshooting)
* Working knowledge of DNS, Internet Infrastructure, and IP informational tools
* Microsoft Office 365
* Mobile Device Management (Android/iPhone)
* Email and Spam troubleshooting
* Certifications with any of the above technologies
* Work with technical and non-technical personnel to design, implement, and manage scalable enterprise networks.
* Comprehensive layer 1 (media selection, cable provisioning) experience.
* Comprehensive Ethernet skill set.
* Comprehensive TCP/IP skill set.
* Experience designing, building, and maintaining layer 2 Ethernet environments, including the proper selection, configuration, and deployment of spanning-tree protocols.
* Experience designing, building, and maintaining enterprise class 802.11a/b/g/n wireless networks.
* Experience working with and managing telecom, network, and market-data vendors.
* Knowledge of DNS / BIND configuration.
* Knowledge of TLS and PKI.
* Knowledge of RADIUS and SecurID authentication integration.
* Knowledge of Wireshark or comparable, ability to review and interpret frame / packet captures.
* Knowledge of Active Directory and Exchange

Work Conditions

* Ability to work in an independent environment with moderate supervision
* Ability to work under a moderate noise level (i.e. working on an open floor with printers, telephones, and computers)
* Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines (including late nights and weekends)
* Ability to travel for business and work beyond normal business hours when necessary
* Ability to be flexible and successfully respond to multiple work pressures
* Sitting for extended periods of time
* Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components
* Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals
