Summary of the Position

This is a non-supervisory hands-on technical position supporting the publishing software and systems used to produce USP's new and existing electronic and print products. The Technical Content Developer is responsible for maintaining and customizing DITA XML authoring system (oXygen) and batch composition system (Antenna House), as well as XSLT applications to transform XML to various formats. Programming experience to include some combination of JavaScript and Node.JS, Python, and Java required. Strong background in XML, XSL, DTDs, and DITA tools required. The position requires using software development issue-reporting systems such as Mantis, along with appropriate version control software such as Git and CVS. Additionally, the Technical Content Developer is an authority on emerging publishing technologies that might benefit USP and provides information technology assistance to PUBs staff and other stakeholders within the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities

* Leads development, customization and maintenance of DITA XML authoring and publishing technologies for USP electronic and print products
* Creates and modifies XML transformation applications for print and online products
* Creates test data and test builds for software as required; versions test and production software in USP-approved repositories using Git and CVS
* Creates release notes in accordance with IT practice; writes and revises instruction documents
* Analyzes, troubleshoots, and debugs files
* Utilizes Mantis or other issue-tracking application tickets; provides periodic activity reports on

Mantis tickets
* Performs data mining searches as required
* Provides technical backup for Publishing Support Specialists
* Provides in-depth training for staff on use of developed applications and processes as needed
* Keeps current with the latest technologies, takes lead in testing/piloting and implementing

new/enhanced software
* Actively seeks out ways to streamline publishing processes either independently or as a participant in planning sessions and/or sub-teams

Basic Qualifications

Education:

* Bachelor's Degree in CS, information management, or related field, or a combination of equivalent experience

Experience:

* Minimum 3 years of experience with XML/XSLT/HTML/CSS
* Publishing or technical communications experience preferred
* Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Word, Project, PowerPoint and Excel
* Minimum 1 year of programming experience in JavaScript, Python, .NET, C#, or SQL
* DITA/DTD/Schema editing and/or maintenance experience

* XML authoring tool customization knowledge preferred
