Responsibilities

The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program is developing the next-generation weather satellite system and operating the current weather satellite constellation to provide decision quality weather data to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the nation's weather data users. Raytheon is developing, deploying, and sustaining the JPSS Command, Control, and Communications Segment (C3S), the Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS), and the Field Terminal Segment (FTS). The Mission Operations Team (MOT) of Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) is seeking a an engineering Mission Planner to provide support to the JPSS Common Ground System (CGS) operated by Raytheon at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, Maryland. This position is located at the NSOF.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and scheduling ground and satellite activities within the JPSS CGS. The position is staffed normal business hours however does require occasional shift work when necessary. The Mission Planner will be responsible for understanding the entire system to include Space/Ground links, Ground Station support equipment, data transport systems, Mission Planning software, hardware and architecture, and the White Sands (TDRSS) system, and other internal and external interfaces and the interdependencies therein.

Must be able to pass a national agency background check in order to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) for access to customer IT systems.

Required Skills:

* Define scheduling tasks and events used to allocate system resources.
* Use Raytheon Equinox® scheduling software conducting resource allocation and de-confliction.
* Determine when contacts with ground stations are needed.
* Generate stored command loads for satellites.
* Distribute the completed, validated schedule.
* Generate performance assessment reports to improve performance of the JPSS CGS.
* Receive and process Mission Task Requests from authorized sensor vendors.
* Individual will be responsible for communicating JPSS Planning and Scheduling events and activities to the various other scheduling teams/missions that utilize the JPSS Common Ground System.

Desired Skills

* Proven teaming skills fostering synergy among the various ops teams.
* Excellent communications skills.
* Experience in the IBM Rational Suite of systems.

Required Education:

University Degree and 2 years relevant experience,

OR

Minimum of eight years relevant experience.

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization. 138505
