I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Division of Information Technology (it.gwu.edu) is the chief provider of technology infrastructure, services and applications at GW. The Division partners with stakeholders across GW to equip students, staff and faculty with the technology knowhow and tools necessary to achieve academic excellence. Reporting to the Director of IT Project and Portfolio Management, the IT Architect - Agile Strategy works within the Division's Planning & Strategic Initiatives department.

Our ideal candidate is passionate about the agile movement and the change it can bring to organizations. We are looking for someone with significant, demonstrated experience in implementing agile adoptions - from strategy development to change management to hands-on training/coaching/communications. We're looking for someone with the chops and expertise to evaluate our current structure, assess agile readiness opportunities, outline the path/impacts of an adoption strategy, and champion the practice. We're looking for someone who understands the importance of and can create measureable progress and has done so for other organizations.

Our new IT Architect - Agile Strategy will focus on taking the Division of IT to the next level of maturity and should be a strong collaborator, as well as comfortable with guiding and advising. The role should be well-versed in solution development, presenting/communicating with leadership, leading committees, and developing strong, effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Key roles and responsibilities will include:

* Develop and own the Agile strategy adoption effort to include scope, timelines, value proposition for delivery. Drive activities and decisions on Agile strategy design, adoption, and enterprise-alignment.
* Identify changes needed in central support teams and control functions to support the efficient execution of Agile projects, to include case and funding identification.
* Communicate with and influence teams/leaders in both business and technology roles via garnering insights, sharing adoption ideas, steering committee leadership, training development, etc.
* Define key metrics for assessing progress of adoption activities, output of current teams, value of methodology, etc. to be presented to on a quarterly basis or ad hoc.
* Identify training and other change initiatives to prepare the overall organization for the adoption of an Agile methodology. Develop Agile training materials and conduct workshops to train project teams and leaders in both business and technical roles
* Work with Agile projects and central/control teams to implement the changes.
* Embed Agile methodology and principles in the enterprise, reflected in mindset and culture changes.
* Identify team-level coaches to drive and support behavior change
* Provide hands on coaching and mentoring to encourage teams to adopt a "be Agile" culture.

This position may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

The position is based at GW's Virginia Science & Technology campus in Ashburn, VA but may require travel to the Foggy Bottom campus located in Washington, DC.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

* Hands on agile coaching experience in a large technology organization with practical experience of agile and organizational change management.
* Ability to work with others to drive change.
* Analytical mindset combined with strategy planning and organizational skills.
* Strong understanding of business processes that drive IT services.
* Solid understanding of IT organizations and specific challenges and issues they face related to Agile Transformation.
* Experience with ITSM processes, including those aligned with the ITIL framework.
* Experience working in a mixed methodology setting (waterfall and agile).
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Strong leadership skills; ability to facilitate discussions between business stakeholders and technologists to challenge, build consensus, negotiate and resolve conflicts.
* Strong interpersonal skills including influencing, coaching, collaborating and team building.
* The ability to inspire and motivate teams to produce quality work focused on execution, delivery, and continuous improvement.
* Ability to manage complexity and navigate through ambiguity.
* Creativity to balance detailed problem solving while maintaining a 'big picture' strategic view.
* Experience working in a highly matrixed organization.
* Proven track record of being results oriented with demonstrated ability to achieve goals.
* Knowledge/experience with Microsoft Office tools and agile toolsets.
* Bachelor's degree in a related field required, Master's degree a plus.
* Agile-related and Project management certifications.
* 5 years experience in technology sector with large-scale technology programs.
* 5 years operating in an Agile team as a developer or scrum master.
