The Office of Communications plays a central role in the work of the Open Society Foundations by coordinating and strengthening the public presence of the global network and by helping to advance relevant issues. Communications works to raise Open Society's public profile by promoting the network's many noteworthy achievements as well as responding to attacks from opponents of open society around the world. The department employs media outreach, digital, social media, publications, and internal communications to assist dozens of Open Society foundations and programs in their communications efforts.

Job Profile

The Internal Communications team is responsible for providing strategic direction for the Open Society global intranet-a key collaborative tool for the network's internal communications.

The Intranet Manager works closely with a range of internal stakeholders to drive adoption of the intranet by providing editorial oversight and developing online engagement strategies. They provide support, guidance, and training to all users to ensure that best practices are followed. They manage the functional integrity of the platform and are the lead point of contact for all operational responsibilities. They liaise with IT and our partner vendor to ensure that full advantage is taken of the technical capabilities of the platform. They also report on platform usage, project management product enhancements, and identify application integration opportunities.

Responsibilities for the role may include the following:

* Write, edit, and publish engaging content for the global intranet, and manage editorial workflows;
* Support a global team of content owners and authors, and liaise with stakeholders across Open Society offices, to ensure that intranet content is complementary, clear, accessible, and in line with Open Society's principles and policies and visual identity and editorial style guidelines;
* Manage the governance strategy for the platform and be responsible for implementing all operational support procedures;
* Regularly evaluate usage data, provide reports to relevant stakeholders, and develop recommendations for technical improvements.
* Project manage platform enhancements;
* Act as an internal resource, working with staff to increase digital media literacy and capacity within the organization.
* All other internal communications projects as assigned.

Candidate Profile:

* 8-10 years of experience in intranet/web content management and creation;
* 5-7 years of experience in digital content strategy and engagement; in particular emerging trends of intranets and digital workplaces;
* Experience with content management systems and HTML and knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and other creative software; any experience with Interact software is a plus;
* Superior English-language editorial and writing skills, and strong editorial judgment and ability to rapidly distill and curate information;
* Understanding of content development for global audiences;
* Awareness of web accessibility and usability best practices;
* Strong project management skills, in particular of technical projects;
* Experience of working in a large, global, and complex organization;
* Passion for open society issues, expert knowledge of creating digital workplaces, and will enjoy working as part of an interdisciplinary, cross-departmental team;
* Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills in interacting with management and colleagues at all levels, external partners and contacts, and the public;
* Diplomatic manner and ability to adapt to a range of cultures and experiences;
* High level of self-motivation, initiative, and creativity;
* A commitment to team working and a willingness to contribute to cross-departmental initiatives
