What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an Intern - Web Developer R&D Undergraduate Year Round

On any given day, you may be called on to:

* Contribute to Sandia's Instrument Catalog Project by helping to create interactive web apps and back-end web servers and databases
* Assist with front end or back end web servers and databases
* Create and update GUIs and use JavaScript or jQuery libraries to visualize data
* Use web framework or APIs to interact with databases and visualize data in plots using web libraries such as D3.js
* Migrate data from one database to another
* Write SQL database queries
* Include database result sets in a report

As a web developer intern, you will be creating and/or modifying web apps that give customers a rich-GUI interface to display data pertaining to radiation detector characterization data and create 2D plots to visualize data dependence of various data parameters.

This work supports the The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Office, which counters attempts by terrorists or other threat actors to carry out an attack against the United States or its interests using a weapon of mass destruction. The Data Mining, Analysis, and Modeling Cell (DMAMC) was created to optimize the use of CWMD's existing knowledge base to improve test planning and execution, address questions of radiation detection performance through the reuse and evaluation of existing data, and shift the reliance on testing only when needed to acquire new knowledge.

Qualifications We Require

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

* Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
* Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
* Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
* Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
* U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire

* Strong interest in visualizing scientific or technical data
* Completion of college level coursework in data structures, math, science and/or engineering
* Experience developing highly interactive web pages and web back-ends and enhancing security on the back-end
* Working knowledge of JavaScript, .jQuery, node.js, D3.js, and/or other JavaScript libraries
* Experience using HTML and CSS to develop web pages
* Experience developing back-end code using PHP, Node.js, or similar web application framework
* Strong interest in SQL databases, such as MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, et

The Computer Sciences Group at Sandia National Laboratories/CA conducts research, development, and systems engineering in computer science and engineering to address important national security problems. Security Clearance

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base.
