REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in a related field; hands-on programming experience; two years' (may include experience as an undergraduate) programming experience in a Linux environment using Python and/or C/C++; experience working with electronics including circuit boards (schematics, pinouts, etc.), multimeter, soldering, and wiring; meticulous attention to detail; strong problem-solving, time-management, communication, and organization skills; ability to manage multiple priorities, work as part of a team, quickly learn new software programs/interfaces, and troubleshoot minor technical problems; and a current U.S. driver's license. Professional experience working with hardware, writing software, or working with vehicles; knowledge of the CAN protocol; experience with embedded systems; knowledge of Solidworks, Fusion360, or other CAD programs; and knowledge of and interest in working with modern vehicles preferred. INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER, AGELAB, Center for Transportation & Logistics, to support naturalistic and simulated advanced driving technology research. Will be responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and development of custom data acquisition equipment and the flow of data from acquisition through various stages of post processing (local and cloud-based); and have hands-on responsibility for the retrieval of data from vehicles, development of new data acquisition plans, and building systems (https://arxiv.org/abs/1711.06976). Responsibilities include performing basic programming to troubleshoot, calibrate, and connect sensors in a vehicle context; validating the functionality of data collection equipment and sensor outputs; troubleshooting/swapping out failed/obsolete sensor components; building new data acquisition systems; developing new installation plans involving research on the layout of modern vehicles for connecting data collection equipment; generating documentation; considering options for new data collection platforms, sensor replacements, and software updates; collaborating on data processing, data analysis, and ongoing research needs; and other duties as requested.
