Job Description

We are looking for a technical, entrepreneurial, data fluent, business "athlete" to help us identify, curate, and incubate new data business opportunities for our Enterprise Information Systems Division. We have data, customers, software, and a market leading ecosystem, we need to stich these together and create new, encompassing digital moments for our customers that have the potential to become new digital businesses. This will involve "skunk" works projects, mainline development, and partnering with other software and data providers. This is a high-profile, cross-functional role where you will be leading change and making things happen on some of the most strategic initiatives that we are working on. You'll need to think like a developer, a data scientist, a strategist, a whole product manager, and a dollars and sense business leader.

You'll have engineers that can help you build things, but you may need to "hack" something out to get the ball rolling so you'll need to know how to work with technology (e.g. AR, AI, Blockchain) or you'll need to be interested in doing so. You'll need to know your way around Excel to do data modeling and business modeling. You need to be detail oriented, take pride in the quality of your work, and be an appropriately skeptical producer and consumer of data. You need the imagination to think about what the world could be like with your breakthrough ideas. You will need a deep understanding of what is and what will soon be possible with technology. You need to be able to think about what can be borrowed from cutting edge consumer technology experiences and applied to our customers and their businesses. You will work hard, learn, make an impact, own an outcome, and have fun!

Why do you want to do this with us?

We work in the business aviation world - which is cool. We sit at the intersection of IoT, cloud, analytics, mobile, and SaaS. We are established, stable, and very successful. We're owned by one of the largest and oldest private companies in the United States, Hearst. We already have the top ecosystem in our market segment. We have a lot of data for you to play with. You'll be a hero here.

How do you roll?

* You are a master juggler, momentum builder, facilitator, diplomat and project champion.
* You are a true leader with a positive unwavering can-do attitude - even the most seemingly impossible tasks or challenges are possible with the right amount of creativity, good judgment, and determination. You are a solution-finder.
* You have excellent work ethic, strive to be the best at what you do, and take pride in your work product.
* You think big - while you understand, analyze and execute 'in the weeds' - you remain strategic and creative in your thinking.
* You have an exceptional ability to balance creative thought with sharp critical judgment and analytical skills.
* You're a great team player - you excel at working with others, you love to share the credit, and have a positive, resilient attitude.
* You have a history of building strong, collaborative working relationships with cross-functional teams, and people want to work with you.
* You take a results-oriented approach and follow through on commitments, ensuring your projects are delivered on time, every time.
* You are able to connect the dots across a multitude of different but inter-connected areas.
* You have a 'Chief of Staff' mentality when working with leadership - you can be the trusted eyes and ears of projects, and can communicate progress and areas that need attention both articulately and succinctly.

What are your responsibilities?

* Identify new data business opportunities for the Division
* Use Rapid Prototyping, Internal Development, External Partnering, or any combination, to take the opportunity from concept to initial production
* Help define goto market, rollout, and support requirements to operationalize opportunities
* Shut down the underperforming projects and prioritize successful ones.
* Rinse and repeat, accelerating cumulative incremental revenue generation as you go.

What's not to like?

You need to be prepared to travel to San Diego and New Hampshire (Boston Metro Area) for travel. You'll need to like to work in the woods, not the big city (e.g. spend more time learning, experimenting, doing, than presenting). You need the energy and leadership to change an established company vs. starting something from scratch.

Any specific job qualifications?

* Excellent business judgment, exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal), and a track record of proven success.
* Excellent organizational and project management skills with experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities in a calm and efficient manner.
* Self-starter attitude and ability to build a strong rapport and trust with resources across multiple functional areas.
* Strong, clear communication skills - both written and oral; can succinctly and clearly communicate, and are ability to produce documents and presentations that are ready for management review.
* 5+ years of tech startup, SaaS, investment banking, or management consulting (or, some combination of the above).
* Strong analytics background, a master of Excel.
* Can write your own SQL, build your own dashboards, and interpret your own experiments.
* Understands the advantages and disadvantages of machine learning and heuristic models and where to apply them.
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent in technical computer science discipline.
* Must be based in Austin; and must be able to travel frequently as needed.
