Position Summary and Responsibilities

Technical Support Consultant - Hydrography / Topography

As a technical expert in the field of hydrographic and LiDAR data processing, digital terrain modelling, bathymetric & topographic data management, engineering analysis, you are the main point of contact with our current and future customers, providing support over email, phone and online resources. This position will be located in the Teledyne CARIS USA office in Alexandria, VA.

Your main tasks & responsibilities:

* Provide first line technical support to our customers
* Provide software training in the office as well as at client sites throughout the North America region and possibly beyond;
* Build close working relationships with existing clients;
* Analyze current client systems and issues, identify technical problems, formulate and demonstrate integrated solutions;
* Document workflows, operating procedures and technical notes for our customers;
* Potentially be involved in marketing and sales activities of Teledyne CARIS USA, including attending conferences and exhibitions;
* Provide expert consultancy, once fully experienced within this role.

Qualifications

You will bring the following qualifications:

* At minimum a Bachelor degree in Marine Science, Geography, Geology, Hydrography, Geomatics or related disciplines
* Experience or course work in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
* Experience in scripting languages (Python preferred)
* Confidence to stand in front of a crowd and provide in-depth training events
* Fluency in English
* Willingness to travel (approx. 25-30%)
* Strong social, intercultural and communicative skills
* US citizenship required for entry into US government customer facilities (for consulting and training)

The perfect candidate also brings one or several of the following:

* Proven working experience in the fields of hydrographic or LiDAR surveys
* Knowledge of and working experience with hydrographic processing software, especially using the CARIS line of products;
* Knowledge and working experience with RDBMS packages (Oracle / PostgreSQL);
* Knowledge of network / server technology;
* Fluency in Spanish.
