Job Description
As a Functional Garment Developer on the Facebook Reality Labs team, you will be working on the cutting edge of wearable technology to enable virtual and augmented reality experiences. Collaborate with experts in many domains to create a wearable interface to a virtual world that can be seen, heard, and felt. You will work alongside Interaction Designers, Perceptual Scientists, Researchers, and Engineers, to create the technology that makes Augmented and Virtual Reality pervasive and universal. RESPONSIBILITIES
* Collaborate with materials scientists, perceptual scientists, interaction designers, program managers, researchers, engineers, and technicians to scope and execute Mixed Reality interaction projects
Direct soft goods portion of functional garment development work internally and with external partners
New pattern generation to accommodate technology integration and automate aspects of construction
Methods of integration for technical components into garments (e.g. soft-robotics, rigid and flexible PCBs, conductors, sensors, etc.)
Manage soft goods technicians to service internal requests and ongoing development work
Clearly communicate project updates, setbacks, and technical information to a vast set of stake holders with diverse backgrounds
Create tech. packs for hand-off to manufacturing partners: soft goods patterns, technical drawings, manufacturing instructions, BOM, sew-by samples, etc.
Co-creation of prototype designs with interaction designers, researchers, engineers, functional garments prototypers
Identify new manufacturing tools and methods that increase internal prototyping capability and collaborate to bring these in-house
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* 3+ years experience in garment manufacturing
Degree in technical design, apparel design, textile design, engineering or related field
Experience with technical/functional garment design
Experience with a variety of soft goods manufacturing techniques and processes (e.g. sewing, embroidery, knitting, thermoplastic welding/lamination, screen printing, etc.)
Experience generating soft goods patterns
Experience with patterning software
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience with wearable soft robotics
Experience making gloves
Experience working with researchers
Experience with electronics and sensors
Experience with pneumatics
Ability to iterate on process to find the best solutions
Experience working in an environment with a high degree of ambiguity and a lack of clear requirements
