PURPOSE

The purpose of the Associate Database Administrator position is to support current Development, QA and Production Microsoft SQL 2016 database infrastructures through: server health monitoring, maintenance, updates and performance tuning; backups, restores and disaster recovery planning; high availability implementations; data security and lifecycle management; code review and evolution; documentation and environment health reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Create, test, modify and maintain database backup and disaster recovery plans
* Perform ad-hoc restores of production databases to Development and QA platforms
* Install server updates and service packs
* Manage database security, access and privileges
* Troubleshoot outages/interruptions
* Assist with capacity planning and in the documentation of corporate database infrastructure, data lifecycle/flow and third-party integrations
* Proactively monitor and report on server and service health
* Monitor SQL Agent jobs
* Maintain and troubleshoot Transactional Replication and Availability Groups
* Maintain data security, history and archiving strategies, including Change Tracking and Temporal Tables
* Execute proper release management and code readiness reviews, assisting with code and database development as needed to assure reliability and performance, including refining and evolving existing code and processes
* Consistent and proactive performance tuning via indexing and statistics creation
* Ensuring data consistency utilizing error handling, transactions with appropriate isolation levels for optimal concurrency
* Other duties as assigned by management

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of certification/education and experience preferred
* 3-5 years' experience database administration in Microsoft SQL 2012/14/16 Standard and Enterprise
* 3-5 years' experience in Transact SQL
* 3-5 years' SQL Server database development / programming
* Prior work with any of SSIS, SSAS, Azure SQL as a Service, Managed SQL Instances and Azure VMs a plus.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

* An enthusiastic approach to SQL Server, infrastructure and design
* Adept at clear communication, documentation and presentation
* Proficiency with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Performance Monitor and SQL Server Profiler
* Proficiency with Transact SQL programming, indexing, tuning and query optimization
* Basic data analysis skills utilizing Microsoft Excel and/or PowerBI
