General Summary

The Full Stack Developer will be a mission critical element of the newly formed Data Innovation and Analytics Lab (DIAL). DIAL is a lean, agile, multidisciplinary team at the vanguard of our organization's efforts to facilitate and advance our data-driven culture to the next level with bleeding edge, actionable strategies. Our work connects clinical, financial, and operations information to proactive efforts toward continuous improvement throughout our system of care. We interface directly with C- and VP-level project sponsors as change agents to disrupt existing paradigms and create the new normal of precision healthcare empowering our patients to advance human ability.

The Full Stack Developer is responsible for developing interactive web based, mobile, and/or desktop applications using industry best practices to deliver high value and quality to stakeholders. The Full-stack Developer works closely with clinicians, analysts, data scientists, and executives to build highly efficient, user-friendly, interfaces.

Principal Responsibilities

The Full Stack Developer will:

* Build, deploy, and maintain robust, scalable web applications with cloud-based and locally hosted infrastructures, including front-end (user interfaces) and back end
* Continually improve our technical stack and processes
* Create, interact with, and consume SOAP & REST API's
* Debug and deploy fixes
* Collaborate via GitHub, Slack, and other collaboration software
* Performs other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab

Reporting Relationships

* Reports directly to the Chief Data Officer as part of the Data Innovation and Analytics Lab (DIAL).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

* Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineer, or equivalent work experience
* 3-5 years as a developer or equivalent experience
* Experience with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Google, Azure)
* Understanding of the challenges of large scale cloud deployment of products developed for clinical environments
* Experience with front-end languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery)
* Familiarity with various JavaScript frameworks (either React or Angular)
* Expertise with back-end languages (combination of Node.js, Python, Ajax, PHP, and Ruby)
* Experience with SQL and noSQL databases
* Strong knowledge of applying algorithms
* Behavior-driven development (BDD) / automated test and deployment
* Expertise with Linux distributions (particularly CentOS/RHEL)
* Package/dependency managers
* A willingness and ability to communicate with stakeholders, users, and colleagues across all levels of development
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, a good work ethic and sense of humor
* Health Informatics / Clinical Informatics or other relevant experience strongly preferred

* Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
