Front End Website Developer - Contract

Job Description

Summary

We are a full-service digital agency searching for an experienced individual to join our team as a contract Front End Website Developer. We're regularly building new websites for our clients, as well as maintaining and upgrading existing ones. You'll be a key part of that process, working closely with our project management, UX, design, development, QA, and content teams to deliver amazing projects that directly impact the lives of others. This role is key to our continued growth and our clients' success.

Ideally you've had extensive experience developing in the Wordpress environment, have built some moderate-to-heavily customized themes, know the right plugins to use depending on a site's needs, and have a history of delivering quality sites. You're at ease writing well-structured and clean HTML and CSS, understand design concepts, and know what it takes to build an accessible website. You can troubleshoot issues effectively and can identify opportunities for improvement.

What We're Looking For

To be a great fit for this role, you really should have:

* A strong understanding of custom development in Wordpress


* Thorough knowledge of HTML and CSS


* Used preprocessors like LESS or SASS


* Experience using templating systems, such as Twig


* Experience with task runners like Grunt or Webpack


* Ability to work with designs in Sketch and know how to use the tool efficiently


* Ability to proficiently use Git and understand different workflows for version control


* An understanding of good software design practices


* Experience using task/issue tracking systems


* Enough JS or PHP knowledge to be able to get by, but also know when to reach out to other developers for assistance.



How We Work

Depending on the needs of a project, we may work in a waterfall or agile style, or somewhere in between. Clean and concise coding, proper commenting, and maintaining external documentation is important, as is keeping project architecture in good order for each project.

Projects occasionally may need you to fly solo, but more often than not, you'll need to collaborate with other team members for work assigned. We routinely bounce between text chat, video chat, screen sharing, and phone calls, so being available for a quick chat or a sprint planning meeting is desirable. We know that as a contractor you may work different hours than us, we just ask that you keep communication levels high and coordinate your schedule when it's really needed, so the team can do our best work.

Who You Are

You love the web and have a history of developing websites or applications. You're most likely a developer with a couple years experience in the industry already, or have equivalent development experience outside of a traditional job.
