Description

SAIC seeks to hire an experienced software engineer to support the Ocean Biology Distributed Active Archive Center (OB.DAAC) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). The OB.DAAC is a world-class archive of satellite remote sensing and in situ data of the oceans. This position will support archival, quality assurance, and redistribution of oceanographic and atmospheric field data used for calibration, validation and product algorithm development for ocean color missions. Duties include development and maintenance of relational database management systems; development of World Wide Web interfaces and online search engines to access the data; and software development for related satellite calibration, data product validation, data analysis, and algorithm development activities.

Qualifications

Required:

* B.S. degree in physical science, computer science, mathematics or engineering


* Experience programming in a Unix/Linux environment


* Experience with Web development using HTML/Javascript


* A demonstrated ability to work effectively with others


* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and a very strong work ethic


* Eligibility for unescorted access to GSFC



Desired:

* Experience with Python, PERL, Java


* Experience with Structure Query Language (SQL), preferably MySQL


* Programming skills in Unix/Linux shell, Java OSGi, and C/C++


* 3-5 years of experience in scripting, website development, and database management


* Formal education in graphic/web site design
