Position Overview

The Software Engineer is part of one of the technology teams responsible for designing and building software components for the delivery of web applications to millions of Consumer Reports users. This role involves working hand-in-hand with team members and other team units to build state of the art scalable and robust web applications that are consumer centric. NOTE: This is a Limted Duration position with an expected duration of one year.

Qualifications Include

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related fields with two years of relevant experience.
* Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript
* Have a working knowledge of modern Javascript Frameworks or libraries like JQuery, Angular, React, or Vue
* Knowledge of building technical assets for A/B or Multivariate testing purposes
* Knowledge of web service REST APIs and related technologies like JSON, XML, etc.
* Familiarity with SEO and best practices for building indexable content
* Experience implementing precise, pixel-perfect designs into working web pages
* Experience with building mobile-first and performant responsive web page
* Working knowledge of Unix environments, including shell scripting such as Perl or Python.
* Agile tools and methodologies, including continuous deployment and rapid integration.
* Experience in documentation, developing and maintaining large-scale, high-visibility systems.
* Ability to solve complex technical problems and effectively communicate solutions to system architects, peers and management.
* Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
* Strong ability to create responsive web pages, with and without Bootstrap framework.
* Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that application will adhere to them.
* Good understanding of page analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, SiteCatalyst.
* Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
* Ability to work with CMS platforms, i.e. WordPress, is a plus.
* Basic knowledge of build tools such as Webpack, Grunt, Gulp is a plus.
* Basic understanding of Node and NPM is a plus.
* Ability to design web pages without involving UI/UX designer is a big plus.
* Proficient at building pages that conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
* Experience with Engaging Networks platform is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

* Implement and test web page components including building and validating web-forms for consumerreports.org and related customer-facing web properties using agile software development practices.
* Under supervision, develop and implement payment, billing and/or dynamic content delivery interfaces.
* Analyze business requirements, provide development estimates and feedback, and determine implementation/execution approaches.
* Work with developers, infrastructure, operations and QA teams to design and implement quality web solutions.
* Support, troubleshoot, monitor and optimize existing application.
* Help streamline software development by contributing to the implementation of a continuous integration process, automating manual processes, and eliminating defects.
* Performs other duties as assigned but not at a higher level.
