Purpose and Scope

The Epic Resolute Professional Billing Analyst functions as the primary support contact and expert for the Epic Resolute application. Works under the direction of the Team Lead or senior-level analysts to configure, build and install the application. The Epic Resolute Billing Analyst coordinates all issues that arise during the application build phase. Key operational activities include primary responsibility for analyzing work flows and understanding policies, procedures and constraints of the clinical or business operations supported by the application. In depth and precise investigation and documentation of operational specifications and application functionality is required. Key technical activities include the analysis of new releases to determine how workflow should be modified, building and populating databases and tables during initial system configuration, conducting system testing and conversion data validation. Develops and documents internal procedures and establishes change control processes for the application. Develops user training aids and trains end users in workflow and use of the application. The Epic Billing Analyst functions as a contact to troubleshoot problems and questions from end-users during training, go-live and stabilization periods. The Billing Analyst must be a skilled communicator who makes decisions independently and in collaboration with others. Attention to detail is a critical skill for this position. Successful candidates enjoy helping other users to learn and adopt to use of the application.

Position Requirements

The Epic Resolute Professional Billing Analyst helps end-user departments in the conceptualizing, design, and implementation of new applications, systems, major enhancements, and required maintenance. Other responsivities are to participate in the design, coding, testing, and documentation of new or existing applications.

Experience

* Bachelor's Degree in a health, science, or business field, or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience, especially with process improvement / business applications in broader and complex areas.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a position of a health care provider or organization with healthcare technology implementations.
* Hands-on experience with Epic Resolute Billing design, configuration, and build in a real-time environment with Claims as they relate to the Resolute Module. Demonstrated knowledge of HB Rule, HB Work Queues, HB Billing Indicators, Statement Process, Letters - Insurance/Self Pay follow up and Payment/Adjustment posting.
* Must have demonstrated experience implementing financial and administrative systems including patient accounting, billing, claims processing, managed care, and decision support. A solid understanding of the business aspects of hospital/physician based business operations
* Strong functional knowledge of Prelude and Cadence and how they impact Hospital Billing is preferred
* Creativity and analytical ability to solve problems in a variety of client situations, roles and environments
* Extensive knowledge of hospital workflow and business process flow analysis and design. Prior experience with IT systems and systems development projects.
* Ability to identify, document, resolve and/or escalate issues and maintain a complete issues log.
* Ability to research, organizes, analyze, and synthesize data to support effective decision making.
* Must have excellent verbal, written communication, and documentation skills
* Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Project, Visio, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
* Project management skills including the ability to lead meetings, prioritize, resolve conflicts, and manage project plan. Must be able to work on multiple projects concurrently.
* Strong customer service orientation.
* Experience working with interfaced/integrated multi-vendor applications preferred.

Must recognize and evaluate problems and refer appropriately when necessary.

Certification

* Existing Epic certification in appropriate module(s) is preferred. Epic certification is required within 9 months from hire.

Skills and Knowledge

* Competent to work at a high technical level on all phases of application systems analysis, workflow analysis, build, design, testing, interface knowledge and programming activities.
* Possesses a thorough knowledge of the inpatient/outpatient revenue cycle environment and hospital operations, procedures/functions and the relationships between them.
* Exhibits solid knowledge of the revenue cycle workflows and the integration with clinical processes and practices including inpatient billing and professional billing and claims.
* Ability to analyze complex system configuration.
* Ability to document current state workflow; configure system based on organizational requirements, document build processes and participate in product testing.
* Ability to create testing scenarios based on current state workflow processes; troubleshoot issues and report findings to leadership as appropriate.
* Ability to analyze, build and design work queues to improve financial reimbursement.
* Ability to interact effectively with department stakeholders, project team members and vendors
* Demonstrates the ability to build relationships and effectively communicate with the project team, and key stakeholders, including clinical and non-clinician. Must be able to work effectively with all staff levels and collaboratively with other project team members.
* Displays a solid understanding of computer systems, interfaces, software, and IT functions.
* Displays a solid knowledge and skill set for Epic system build/trouble shooting.
* Able to identify business processes to improve the Revenue Cycle Flow; make recommendations to project leadership to ensure compliance with regulatory billing requirements.
* Must possess the ability to understand the integration of applications and their impact on business processes and operations.
* Must be forward thinking, able to meet project deadlines, possess high level of energy and professional acumen, and be client service oriented. Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
* Must exhibit a dedication to quality, reliability and resourcefulness.
* Excellent attention to detail, organizational, listening, and verbal and written communication skills are required.
* Ability to take initiative, advises internal users on alternate methods of solving problems, or recommends specific solutions. Creativity and excellent presentation skills is an asset.
* Ability to anticipate problems and visualize solutions on a proactive basis.
* High level of proficiency required within the MS Office Professional Suite: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

* Coordinates and supports full cycle implementation and ongoing optimization and stabilization of the Epic Resolute Billing module. Assists in ensuring timely deliverables of high quality work including requirements gathering, analysis, current and future state workflows, coding, design, system configuration, testing, implementation, support and documentation required for the Epic Resolute application.
* Planning, development, training, implementation, and evaluation of application functionality.
* Design workflows and build the Epic application, conduct testing, assist with training curriculum creation, and support the go live.
* Works with the team and key customers to ensure appropriate development, training, and implementation of application functionality, and to validate system design and identify additional requirements for successful adoption/use
* Handles rapidly evolving system requirements and demands
* Executes build activities and ensure the build complies with Epic build guidelines and design decisions
* Works with end users to validate system design and identify additional requirements for successful adoption/use
* Participates in workflow design and understand how the system will impact end users. Through the implementation process become proficient with host applications, touch points with other applications and interface requirements
* Provides end user support and resolve issues once the system is activated Follow guiding principles for master file ownership and manage assigned master files. Participate in education, design and validation sessions
* Stays current with new versions and interim release functionality
* Works closely with other application analysts and IT on integration points across applications
* Conducts facility impact analysis to determine exceptions to enterprise model
* Reviews enterprise application workflows and model with facilities to identify exceptions and assist them in developing solutions
* Practice billing operations duties:
* Reviews, develops, implements, evaluates, and revises charge guidelines to optimize revenue management; effectively implements recommendations and monitors results.
* Prepares analyses and reports/recommendations based on activities.
* Evaluates/monitors the charge submission and accounts receivable work done by the practices.
* Assist Sr. Billing/Revenue Analysts with charge/AR work as needed by the practices or other areas of the hospital.
* Ensures charge submission, work queue submissions, and follow-up required by the practices is occurring on a timely basis
* Reviews office procedures as they relate to charge submission and accounts receivable management; recommends suggestions, ideas and solutions to improve operational processes
* Collaborates with practice personnel and administration to implement change to practice operations where necessary and communicates responsibilities Reviews patient-specific billing issues/complaints as needed.
* Trains staff on billing policies and procedures.
* Reviews reports and analyses to identify operational issues.
* Schedules, coordinates and conducts meetings with staff, physicians and vendors.
* Participates in Quality Control measurement and follow-up.
* Reports to Management regularly and requests intervention where necessary.
* System implementation duties
* Conducts special projects and special studies to facilitate revenue management as required for system conversions, new facilities/acquisitions, new departments, new service lines, changes in regulations, legal reviews, etc.
* Attends workflow and operational meetings to discuss Epic Hospital/Resolute Professional Billing Implementation.
* Makes recommendations on system changes to improve the revenue cycle.
* Provides guidance to the Training team on improving curriculum and providing users with additional training.
* Participates in policy and procedure development discussions and assist in implementation of billing policies.
