Job Description

Enterprise Media Systems Engineering Manager is responsible for developing and scaling global enterprise collaboration tools to manage a collaboration infrastructure which is expanding at a rapid rate. As our Facebook video infrastructure expands in both size and complexity, this position will focus on continually improving the interoperability and reliability of the Voice/Video infrastructure with the associated platforms and tools that it relies upon. The candidate should have a strong infrastructure and tooling background with experience working in a large distributed server/system environment.

The Enterprise Media Systems Engineering Manager will manage and maintain engineering focus on our hardware fleet by developing tooling to work with open APIs, automated device management and health tracking. The Enterprise Media Systems Engineering Manager will also be expected to interact with a broad array of internal business, product and FB partners to deliver a common, scalable and stable mix of infrastructure and operational tools. Managing a Collaboration Infrastructure team requires a comprehensive understanding of a wide range of technologies, a focus on growing and developing the skills and talents of your team, and a relentless drive to focus on high-value projects and to prioritize ruthlessly.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provide expert insight on Infrastructure optimization and drive for scalable efficiencies across the environment.



Work closely with Enterprise Engineering team to improve overall system design and operations as it pertains to Voice/Video implementations globally.

Manage development in tooling to increase operational efficiency of the Voice/Video environment.

Understand technical architectures, capacity plans, tooling needs, automation plans, product launch plans, and other issues and create comprehensive plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges.

Partner with network engineering, capacity, collaboration development and product teams to plan and execute against a broad array of business and product needs.

Augment and enable software infrastructure to manage, maintain and track hardware in our growing fleet.

Develop systems that proactively capture health status of various hardware components.

Help engineers develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles.

Work closely with adjacent teams and industry partners to drive for improvements and resolutions to issues as they pertain to the Voice/Video environment.

Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and onboarding new employees.

Balance the need to "keep things running" with allocating time to long-term, high-impact projects.

Make strong, data driven decisions, to have a positive impact on the Facebook internal collaboration stack.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* 10+ years of work experience in the field of Information Technology.



6+ years' experience with scripting or coding (Python, PHP, BASH, etc.).

6+ years Linux or Windows Server administration experience.

5+ years' experience with Chef/Chocolatey/Munki or other configuration management systems.

5+ years' experience with VM/vSphere.

Networking experience.

BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience with hiring and performance management



Knowledge of UNIX and TCP/IP network fundamentals, Cisco networking hardware/software (Routing/switching/IOS)

Experience learning new software languages, frameworks and APIs

Experience coding in at least one language including troubleshooting and debugging (even if it is not one that Facebook uses)

Experience with Alerting systems such as Icinga/Nagios

Experience with managing large-scale fleets of hardware including health checks and remediation
