What you'll be doing…

The re-envisioned Tableau Mobile app stormed onto the mobile BI scene earlier this year with great reviews for its user experience and utility. A fantastic data visualization app only matters if its users can connect to their Tableau Server though, which can be complicated by the multitude of authentication and device and application management solutions enterprises deploy to secure their networks and data. Our group's charter is to broaden Tableau's reach and invite even more engagement from our customers. With mobile devices now at ubiquity in enterprises, Tableau Mobile is critical to our success.

You will manage and support a team of motivated mobile and server engineers to enable more customers to connect to their data with Tableau Mobile. Tableau customers have high expectations for security, app management, and ease of use. They also value consistency across Tableau products, including Tableau Server, Tableau Prep, and Tableau Desktop, so you will work with other development leaders to ensure all our products have forward-looking authentication and security capabilities.

Day-to-day responsibilities would include

* Ensuring your team is empowered, making meaningful progress on meaningful work, and growing lifelong technical and people skills to have successful engineering careers
* Providing technical leadership around instrumentation, monitoring, testing, and technology choices
* Partnering with customer support to respond to urgent customer requests, with hands-on customer follow-up as needed
* Learning about new industry standard solutions and building cross-functional and cross-org support for new capabilities

You would be free to make technical contributions if desired and if the team needs them. Doing so would not be required, however, and there is flexibility to impact Tableau Mobile and Tableau Server with your other strengths as a manager.

Who you are...

* Experienced. You have 5+ years of software development experience and 2+ years of experience managing an engineering team, ideally using technologies like OpenID, OAuth, mutual SSL, or Mobile Application Management/Mobile Device Management
* Emotionally Intelligent. You value building relationships and trust with your team members and peers, and lead with empathy
* Technical. You're a skilled mobile or server software engineer and have experience architecting, developing, and testing complex systems
* A Problem Solver. You adapt to an ever-changing space and apply creative solutions to unforeseen obstacles
* Fun. Even when under pressure you keep things light-hearted and make sure team morale and life balance are priorities
* A Communicator. You will spend much of your day connecting with peers, other disciplines or managers, customers, and of course your direct reports
