The Engineer IV - Internet Standards is a member of a team working in advanced systems engineering. This position plays a role on a team focused on the development new Internet standards and technology for the domain name industry. The Engineer IV contributes in all phases of systems engineering, including requirements analysis, design, specification, proof of concept development, and documentation. This role collaborates cross-functionally with team members and across organizations and is responsible for the execution of integration strategies for leveraging third party open-source tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Serves as a member of Verisign's Chief Technology Office Industry Standards and Technology team. Researches emerging technical trends and standards. Designsand develops proposals for new technical standards both inside the company and in external standards organizations. Works with external consultants, contributing to the development of Statements of Work and tracking goals vs. accomplishments. Works with strategic external partners, including goodwill building, to accomplish corporate goals.
Serves as team member on multiple concurrent large complex projects ensuring engineering related artifacts are meeting Verisign standards and the best technical solutions are being considered.
Contributes to internal efforts to develop proof of concept software implementations.
Supports the development of intellectual property related to emerging technical trends and standards.
4 Year / Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field required; Graduate degree preferred.
15 years of related experience large scale systems engineering projects required.
4 years leading technical teams in the implementation of large complex projects.
Published in scholarly or technical publications preferred.
Advanced knowledge of the following skills:
Understanding of internet standards and technology used in the domain name industry
Working knowledge of client/server internet protocols
Proven ability in TCP-based application level protocols and parsing
Software development and systems administration ability
Excellent technical writing, problem solving and trouble-shooting skills in a team environment
Familiarity with a variety of languages and language paradigms such as OO, functional, lambda, and scripting
Understanding of design patterns
Understanding of complex data structures and algorithms with a corresponding understanding of time/space complexity
Familiarity with a variety of databases such as relational, key value, time series, and big data
