Disaster Assistance Systems Support Specialist II

NOTE: Positions advertised with this position description are temporary and will only be filled after a disaster declaration. Management is recruiting to identify qualified candidates that may be hired on short notice to fulfill the operations requirements when there is a federal disaster. Job requires working beyond normal work hours including holidays and weekends when necessary, especially in the first months after a disaster declaration.

Provides automation support for the Federal Assistance in Individual and Households Program (IHP). Maintains, analyzes, debugs, and implements database software systems. Performs network administration. Uses of current databases to acquire electronic data from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), process the data, and provide data to the mainframe to produce payments to disaster victims and required reports to FEMA and governor's office. Assist with any software problems or issues that may involve the National Emergency Management Information System (NEMIS), Disaster Assistance Payment Program (DAPP), and any Microsoft products.

Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Troubleshoots/diagnoses moderately complex hardware or software problems. (25%)

Maintains automated systems (for example, updating tables or database files, generating reports, performing backups, archiving, transferring data.) (15%)

Manages automated systems operations to ensure data integrity. (10%)

Coordinates researching/evaluating network capacity and makes recommendations based on research results. (10%)

Maintains computer security access information and coordinates with others on security access. (10%)

Researches and evaluates information management technologies (for example, systems, hardware, software) and makes recommendations regarding acquisition. (5%)

Maintains technical expertise on hardware, software, network configurations, or peripherals using various methods (for example, reviewing technical information, attending training, using self-paced learning, working with other staff). (10%)

Assists in designing systems and developing applications to meet data processing needs. (5%)

Maintains mainframe or client/server databases (for example, creating, analyzing, redesigning, reorganizing, or recovering databases, database backups). (5%)

Provides information, consultation, and recommendations to management regarding hardware or software requirements, coordination, and installing personal computer hardware and software. (5%)

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of current database technology.

Thorough understanding of computer hardware and software applications and capabilities.

Ability to communicate computer technical information to non-technical staff.

Capable of planning for current and future database needs.

Ability to create reports from current databases.

Knowledge of the practices, principles and techniques of computer operations.

Ability to operate or train others to operate automated data processing equipment.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

N/A Initial Selection Criteria:

Experience in various software programs including database, spreadsheets, and web applications.

Experience in diagnosing and fixing moderately complex hardware and software problems.
