What you'll do as a DevOps Engineer at Akuna:

This is an exciting role where you will be given the opportunity to take ownership of projects and make them your own. At Akuna, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our efficiency as we continue to grow. As a DevOps Engineer, you will work closely with our Infrastructure, Development, and Business Operations teams on a daily basis. You will help to design and automate processes around application deployment, hardware provisioning, and monitoring of our trading system. In this role, you will:

* Manage a globally distributed hybrid-cloud infrastructure
* Design systems and APIs that enable self-service compute and storage allocation
* Automate container-based deployment pipelines and CI Systems
* Provision, configure, optimize, and monitor technologies such as Kubernetes, Spark, Kafka, and large-scale distributed databases
* Automate infrastructure management and compliance with tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Cloud Formation
* Explore new technologies in the cloud-native/container ecosystem
* Work with cutting-edge technologies, such as high-performance servers, FPGA, GPU and low latency networking equipment
* Build and deploy robust, centralized, log-aggregation systems
* Design and manage real-time monitoring systems to detect errors and other anomalous behavior at the cluster, host, and application level
* Advise and assist application developers with proper roll-out and versioning procedures
* Identify processes and workflows that can be automated
* Produce simple and maintainable libraries and utilities
* Provide performance metrics to the Data team to help analyze the efficiency of Akuna's trading environment

Qualities that make great candidates:

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar field
* 3+ years of experience in a mid- or senior level position within a DevOps team
* Experience managing large scale cloud deployment (i.e. AWS, Google Cloud)
* Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and public/private Cloud infrastructure preferred
* Experience with CI/CD processes
* Experience using and managing databases such as Cassandra, Postgres, Druid, Redshift, Dynamo, Mongo, Influx, and Prometheus a plus
* Broad experience in Salt, Puppet, Nagios, Cobbler, Ansible and full-stack monitoring systems is a plus
* Familiarity with Slack integrations preferred
* Comfortable scripting in languages like Bash and Python
* Understanding of networks and systems architecture
* A technologist who is passionate about their field and able to show deep technical credibility to their team and the wider company
* Hands-on, collaborative working style, with the ability to build relationships with multiple teams
* Demonstrated experience taking strategic risks and pushing forward technology initiatives
* Trading industry experience preferred
* Experience working with Linux in large distributed systems
