Jon Role and Responsibilities:

The Developer Advocate role at VMware is unique in its ability to influence the future direction of the market as well as product. As more enterprises choose cloud (private, public, hybrid), software engineering practices, methodologies, frameworks, and tools become integral to execution. This role will create awareness, while providing approaches to making this journey successful for current and future VMware customers. Given the open source and community roots of Kubernetes, you preferably have experience working with CNCF, Linux Foundation, or other open source community projects.

* Understand and shape VMware go-to-market functions with respect to Developer platform needs based on your experiences coding
* Work with a variety of VMware sales, product, and marketing leaders to shape messaging and access to developer events, forums, and other communication vehicles
* Create forums, workshops, online collaboration environments (like TGIK) to connect with developers and showcase use cases
* Represent an approach to scaling Kubernetes for Enterprises across a variety of forums
* Use customer experiences and conversations to provide direction and feedback to internal VMware product and marketing teams
* Use experience with application development to create best practices and perspectives around eco-systems to share with Developers
* Design and develop product demos addressing common pain points
* Focus on activities which build awareness and drive adoption of solutions across a variety of application areas and industries (financial services, retail, healthcare etc.)
* Estimated travel of between 50% to 80% locally and internationally, depending on needs of customers and VMware teams

Required Skills:

* 6+ years in a software engineering or development environment
* Strong customer mind-set and ability to uncover technical challenges
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
* Strong relationship building skills and business acumen
* A holistic and detailed understanding of application development using modern languages, platforms, Software Development Lifecycles (SDLCs), and tools
* Ability to create assets such as white papers, presentations, and blog posts
* Running seminars, workshops, and forums with different stakeholders

Preferred Skills:

* Demonstrable experience of public speaking, especially at industry events to large audiences
* Enthusiastic self-starter with a charismatic personality
* BA/BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent degree/experience
