Why this role matters

The purpose of this role is to be responsible for the technical leadership and design of e2e solutions on behalf of Ethernet and Data Services for Wholesale Broadband (within Enterprise) . Designs must be delivered in accordance with agreed roadmaps to facilitate launch of new Wholesale products or product features and/or to improve customer or operational experience.

What you'll be doing

* This role provides the technical direction for a domain design area and sets the review processes for their area, the role would manage a team of 5 or more (BT FTE) of Senior Solution Designers and Solution Designer designers (sub con)


* The role builds domain solution designs and/or enterprise strategies to integrate all aspects of the solution (network, system, process, and people) to ensure it works together.


* Accountable in their domain design area, for new developments and in life, management of the skills of the teams, review processes to check the design. Will ensure that designs meet quality, time and are fit for purpose.


* Quality assurance of team output


* Team Line management, resource management, work prioritisation, Coaching and team development


* Capture business requirements by working with key business stakeholders and ensure that these requirements are translated into high quality technical solutions that are delivered to agreed dates This should apply whether the individual is producing e2e designs themselves or has responsibility across a group of designs being produced by other e2e designers


* Promptly resolve any issues that arise during design and provide a technical steer as required


* Proactively influence product evolution and support the development of product roadmaps


* Provide RoM costs against requirments, running Feasibility Studies or RIAs if required


* Ensure that designs adhere to architectural principles and policies


* Provide expert advice to ensure rapid resolution of operational live issues.


* Drive innovation and transformation within the design space


* Ensure that solution/s offer minimum delivery and operational risk and lifetime total cost of ownership (TCO)


* Ensure that all aspects of a solution are addressed spanning networks, systems and process


* Be recognised as key contributor who is able to provide expert advice to colleagues and senior stakeholders

Technical Skills:

* IT background (Computer Science or Engineering degree) preferrable


* Understanding of networks


* XML and Yang and TOSCA (to verify that designs are correct)


* Business analysis


* Requirements management


* Estimating


* Design - ability to complete complex e2e designs or provide technical leadership for groups of designs


* Shaping/driving cost optimised technical solutions to meet customer requirements


* System Architecture - thorough understanding of principles


* E2E solution design process - understanding


* Understanding of business process journeys (L2C, T2R, P&B)


* Test driven design


* Understand of agile methodology


* ITIL/ETOM/TOGAF qualification
