Job Description

As part of the newly created Data Strategy and Enablement Team (DS&E), this role will be an enabler of our journey to be the world's leading data-driven retailer. As part of this transformation, we are seeking an individual who will be responsible for ensuring the fitness of data acquired through data acquisition initiatives - including both sources and services - activities across the DS&E team to elevate our acquisition activity as well as the internal processes to support data sourcing.

We are looking for a highly motivated, resourceful, team-oriented individual to drive the data stewardship process. You will be leading the data discovery process, data lineage, data quality and other data management efforts for internal and commercial datasets through multiple data acquisition and implementation efforts using various data management tools and methodologies. You will also be involved in evolving the foundation of Walmart Data as a Strategic Asset, and responsible for curation of the data, and maintaining quality internal and external data assets, including defining and adhering to processes, policies, guidelines for acquired data to be in compliance with policy and/or regulatory obligations.

The Data Steward role will report to the Lead Data Steward, Data Acquisition.

Minimum Qualifications

Key responsibilities:

* Work in a small, high performance agile team environment - sharing innovative ideas and working collaboratively across teams.
* Work with data engineers, stewards, quality engineers and product managers to ensure data best practices are designed and implemented proactively.
* Curate documentation and lead training sessions to facilitate end user support
* oversee the life cycle of a data from acquisition to publish and retention
* Define and implement policies and procedures for the day-to-day operational and administrative management of systems and data
* Responsible for establishing data-quality metrics and requirements,
* Establish guidelines and protocols that govern the proliferation of data to ensure that privacy controls are enforced
* Collaborate across business community to inform and implement acquisition strategy
* Create resilient, and sustainable data analysis process and Data Quality Rules.
* Be a data-oriented Steward creating and experimenting with new ideas that will engage and excite our customers while ensuing product specific data acquisitions needs are delivered.
* Who you are:
* You have prior experience with role of data steward and meta-data management across a variety of large data systems, including data discovery, data lineage etc.
* You have deep understanding of commercial data sources and understand database concepts and terminology
* You have a demonstrated track record of handling multiple complex sourcing projects and delivering results in the data management area
* You have strong SQL experience and experience with various data management, governance and curation tools
* You are a team player, with the courage to drive change through disruption while maintaining a respect for the team

Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
* Experience with managing business catalogs and metadata for large data sets
* Experience with data management and governance tools such as Collibra, Paxata and technical digital finger printing tools
* 5+ years of prior experience in end-end data management using manual and tool-based methodologies
* 3+ year's experience in Data design and modelling including traditional and big data systems
* Strong understanding of data design techniques and principles
* Strong leadership and communication skills
* Must be able to work effectively both on teams as well as be self-motivated, task oriented and organized.
* Strong customer focus and obsession with quality
* Ability to work in a fast-paced and agile development environment
