Job Description

Designs, develops and programs methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse "big data" sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.

Interacts with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. Develops and codes software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. Identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers.

Duties and tasks are standard with some variation. Completes own role largely independently within defined policies and procedures. 2 years relevant experience and BA/BS degree preferred.

At Oracle Utilities, we're applying cutting-edge data science to one of humanity's greatest challenges: Energy. Our utility customers in the United States and abroad give us energy usage data for tens of millions of their customers, which we then analyze using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques.

The Data Science Team at Oracle Utilities builds many of our key insights and analytics, owning them from initial research all the way to scalable, multi-client models that can be deployed at scale for millions of customers around the world, to help consumers save energy and transform how utilities engage with their customers. Right now, we're currently using deep learning techniques, smart meter data, and cutting-edge big data tools to learn how people use energy on a per-appliance basis, with more projects like this on our roadmap.

Responsibilities

* Build and implement data science methods
* Interpret and evaluate data science methods
* Understand the meaning, limitation and scope of the technical results
* Determine the most appropriate research projects, data collection and methodologies
* Identify, retrieve, manipulate, relate and exploit multiple structured data and unstructured data sets from various sources, including building or generating new data sets as appropriate
* Translate the results into insightful business results

Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
* 2 years of relevant industry experience
* Experience to work in an agile team environment with little guidance
* Proficiency in basic machine learning methods including clustering, classification, pattern mining, deep learning, text mining, time series analysis, and forecasting
* Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Java and related machine learning libraries (e.g. Keras, scikit-learn, Pandas, SciPy)
* Proficiency in databases, SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Hive
* Critical thinking, problem solving skills for willingness to innovate
* A passion in the areas of utilities, energy efficiency, alternative energy, and sustainability.

Preferred

* Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field with a focus on Data Science
