The Organization:

Data Science is central to Chegg - supporting every business line and functional organization at the company. It is a team composed of data scientists creating data products using the latest NLP and machine learning algorithms to create powerful new experiences for our students.

The Problem:

Content will come in various mediums and will map against a number of Chegg's digital services - from ebooks to study guides, to flashcards about specific courses to student essays and citations. Building relationships across all content via text mining and algorithm development will be a central component of the role. The ideal candidate is excited about joining our team's mission to bring text mining, NLP and machine learning technology to applied problems within the education space.

The Role:

As a Data Science Manager, you will be the leader of a group of data scientists that will focus on Chegg's Learning Services Writing Tools business unit. You will interact with the business and product teams to guide roadmaps and development plans. In addition, you must be a leader that can manage a team and provide guidance and mentorship.

This position is based in San Francisco, CA, and the role will be responsible for any and all of the following:

* Lead a small team of Data scientists in Chegg's Learning Services' Writing Tools business unit.
* Develop and define key product and business insights to help guide decision-makers and executives in the digital services business.
* Engage with leaders of engineering, and product, to drive the future strategy for the company - grounded in data science.
* Develop and mentor a team of data scientists and foster their professional development.
* Be aware of advancements in the NLP and ML communities and identify opportunities within Chegg for their potential adoption.

Requirements:

* Master's degree in a quantitative field (Sciences, Engineering, Operations Research, etc.), PhD is a bonus.
* 5+ years of demonstrated success in data science and analytics, 3+ years of managing analyst/data science teams.
* Extensive machine learning experience in NLP and/or deep learning techniques and libraries in Python.
* An analytical toolset including an advanced understanding of statistics (time series analysis, cluster analysis, multivariate analysis), discrete simulation, linear and nonlinear optimization.
* Fluent in writing SQL or NoSQL queries for data manipulation.
* Strong understanding of statistics and underlying machine learning mathematics.
* Experience working with ML pipeline products such as AWS Sagemaker, Google AI Platform, or Databricks a plus.
* Self-motivated; independent, organized and proactive; highly responsive, flexible, and adaptable when working across multiple business units and product teams.
