Job Description

TrinityRail is searching for a Data Management Specialist to join our Data Management team. The Data Management team works with portfolio management, customer service, fleet maintenance, sales operations, marketing, railcar products and maintenance services. The team provides strategic and tactical support for data quality and transformation. The Data Management Specialist role will help continually improve the quality, depth, and breadth of railcar mechanical data in our ecosystem. #work4trinity

What you'll be doing:

* Be a subject matter expert in the lifecycle, requirements, and processing of regulatory railcar testing/qualification certificates. Ensure certificates are processed within one business day of receipt.

Identify opportunities for enhancements and automation and participate in enhancement projects.

Frequently interact with railcar repair shops via phone and email on all matters related to certificates.

* Have proficient knowledge of our Transportation Asset System (TAS), its user interfaces, work queues, data, and system integrations.

Input critical mechanical data and resolve data concerns.

Work with internal Business Systems (IT) team to resolve system and data issues, and participate in enhancement projects.

Validate and load third party data.

* Have proficient knowledge of the UMLER® System, which is an online tool for tracking the physical characteristics, transportation management and pool assignments of virtually every piece of rail equipment in North America.

Detailed understanding of UMLER logic and rules.

Resolve regulatory data conflicts in UMLER in a timely manner.

Identify and implement methods for avoiding regulatory data conflicts.

Frequently interact with UMLER Customer Support to resolve data and system issues.

* Help resolve complex data issues, analyze trends, and make recommendations for improvement.
* Identify and transition non-value-added data processing occurring in other departments to our department, then implement systematic automation to eliminate waste.
* Perform data quality audits, cleanse data, and communicate results to manager.
* Assist in educating other staff on systems, processes, and departmental responsibilities.

What you'll need:

* Bachelor's degree required in business, engineering, or other relevant technical background
* 2+ years related work experience in data processing required
* Proficient skills with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and other web-based applications.
* Strong problem solving skills and business process oriented
* Capable of effectively documenting and describing complexity for non-technical personnel

Preferred:

* Experience creating process documents (i.e., instructions, users guides)
* Experience with user acceptance testing
* Familiar with regulatory requirements for railcars
* Familiar with mechanical components of railcars
