Overview

* This is an opportunity to be a key member of Bain's expanding data science capability area. This position will be part of the Advanced Analytics Group (Bain's team of data science, engineering, marketing science, operations research and primary research experts)
* Responsibilities will include
* Supporting regional Data Scientists in extending and innovating our big data and analytic capabilities
* Working with Bain consultants and Advanced Analytics experts to define data requirements, plan data acquisition, and develop target data schemas
* Working with consultants and clients to extract large and complex data sets from client and third party sources (structured and unstructured) and then transfer & load the data onto Bain data servers into target data schemas
* Facilitating data merging and transformation in preparation for analysis by planning the process and either executing directly or training consultants to implement directly
* Assist Advanced Analytics experts with data validations and analysis of large and complex datasets


* The person in this role will need the ability to
* Communicate effectively with analytics/data experts, business leaders, and executives inside and outside of Bain to assess opportunities and develop data driven solutions for Bain clients across a variety of sectors
* Translate business objectives into data and analytics solutions using appropriate data engineering, analytics, visualization & dashboard applications
* Design, execute and direct data engineering and analytics solutions


* Communicate with and educate both senior and junior colleagues to further embed data science and analytics across the firm
* This position can be located in any of the following offices: Chicago, Dallas, Boston, Silicon Valley, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Washington DC

Responsibilities

* Develop and/or implement tools for data acquisition, extraction, transformation, management, and manipulation of large and complex data sets
* Explore, model, mine, and experiment with data to answer critical business issues
* Support and train consulting teams in use of data and visualization tools to generate and communicate insights
* Train relevant Advanced Analytics Group team members to support data integration initiatives
* Provide training, documentation and other assistance to Bain's consulting staff to support and expand the use of data integration and advanced analytics
* Keep abreast of new and current data science techniques

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Econometrics or information sciences such as business analytics or informatics
* 5+ years experience in data acquisition, integration, transformation, and cleaning of both structured and unstructured data; 3+ with a related graduate degree
* Strong SQL expertise and strong data modeling (logical and physical data models) experience
* Strong experience with ETL/ELT design and implementations in the context of large and complex datasets, especially in the context of Data Science pipeline development
* Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Talend, Informatica, DataStage, SSIS, Redpoint)
* Demonstrated experience with a variety of relational database and data warehousing technology (e.g. Oracle, SAP BW, DB2, Teradata, MS SQL Server, Vertica, Greenplum, SAP HANA, MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS Redshift)
* Experience with Python, Java, and VBA a plus
* Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools a plus (e.g. Cognos, Qlikview, Tableau, Tibco, MicroStrategy)
* Experience with Hadoop and Spark ecosystem (e.g., HBase, Pig, Hive) a plus
* Experience with NoSQL database technologies (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, CouchDB) a plus
* Experience with cloud computing
* Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g. R, SPSS, SAS, RapidMiner) a plus
* Excellent oral and written communication skills a must
* Ability to collaborate with people at all levels and with multi-office/region teams
* Must thrive in a fast paced environment and be able to work independently
* Travel required
