Job Description

RoaR is a product area of about 45 people with diverse background (soon to be 60). We work with royalties and reporting which means that we make sure that the rights holders (record labels, publishers and collecting societies) are getting paid correctly for all the content that is streamed every day on Spotify globally. A lot of eyes are upon us in RoaR, because the things we do have a lot of impact directly on the financial numbers for the whole Spotify. Which is both a big challenge in verifying the correctness of the numbers and also a big source of satisfaction when we are making improvements that impact Spotify's margin.

We work in squads with a typical size of 5-8 people. We believe in aligned autonomy within squads, with shared higher level goals and processes and with freedom to experiment on how we're executing towards the goals. We expect individuals to be selfless and cooperate across disciplines, always ready to contribute where the need is most. As such, we encourage cross-training and movement between both squads and disciplines.

We are looking for skilled and motivated data engineers that want to be challenged with big datasets, complex data processing and high performance and scalability requirements when building a brand new system for royalties - The Royalty Platform.

In the Royalty Platform we are trying to solve several complex issues among them the aggregation and classification of our input data, validation and ingestion of publishing claims at scale and parsing huge amounts of data into detailed reports required by Spotify's licensors.

All this is being built in parallel with us maintaining the current system. We also need to ensure a smooth transition from the current system to the new platform.

Who you are:

* A data engineer (Engineer II or Senior Engineer) working in another Spotify squad


* Innovative and able to come up with new solutions to very tricky problems


* Collaborative in working together with your teammates as well as the other squads in the area


* Experienced in working with data pipelines and data processing


* Comfortable working with scala & java and sometimes touch python
