Job Description

Akimeka has an excellent opportunity for a Data Center Technician in Urbana, MD. The shift is Tuesday to Saturday from 330pm to Midnight.

This requirement will provide the continued contractor support in the facilities management of the client's raised floor computer room environments. This support will assist the client in developing and implementing facilities for both mainframe and open systems. Duties will include site preparation for hardware installations, de-installations, upgrades, configuration changes and modifications in support of the activities related to client projects; ODAR, Riser Panel, VOIP and the Data Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Not listed in order of importance; other duties may be assigned)

* The scope of effort includes development of project schedules and planning documents, coordination of vendors, on-site assistance in the site planning and installation of equipment, and verification of newly installed power circuits and other site modifications. The contractor will provide assistance and support for client's existing raised floor computer in the Data Center locations.
* Unforeseen projects and new development in hardware/software will have an impact on Computer Facilities and Environmental Branch's ability to meet and satisfy demands.
* Due to the large number of equipment installations and projected incoming equipment, contractor personnel shall be capable of performing the duties described with minimal supervision. They will work closely with the client Activity Manager in order to produce deliverables defined in the Sub-Activities.

Requirements

* Contractor resources must have adequate knowledge of telecommunication links and modes of transmission of data including all cable configurations. They must have the capability of manufacturing various cables on short notice with provided supplies. The contractor's expertise must include; installation of servers, routers, switches, etc. and all associated hardware, cable installation, and housing of equipment in cabinets, with the primary emphasis on safety.
* Contractor resources must have an understanding of the setup and workings of a multi-platform environment that includes knowledge of all types of mainframe equipment i.e. Z9 Processors, different types of DASD and vendors, tape drives, T10k Silos. They must understand the power requirements and the connectivity of the equipment via FICON directors, ESCON, Fiber, bus and tag.
* Fiber and CAT 5 or 6 experience
* Able to use mechanical tools such as hand tools and drills
* Able to use electronic tools such as meters and oscilloscopes
* Lift or move up to 100 pounds
* Knowledge of telecommunications links and modes of transmission of data including all cable configurations
* Ability to manufacture various cables on short notice
* Expertise in installation of servers, routers, switches, etc, and associated hardware, cable installation, and housing of equipment in cabinets
