Research & Innovation

Innovation is at the heart of BT's business. Our Research and Innovation teams work at the cutting edge of new technologies, exploring how we and our customers can benefit from them. For the first two years you'll work in a number of technical areas with our world-leading teams, using science and engineering to help solve problems for our business and our customers. Working on real projects, you could be conducting experiments to test new equipment or new techniques, building prototypes using new technologies, or developing software to analyse and solve problems. After two years, you'll choose a specialist area and by the end of your apprenticeship you'll be on your way to becoming an expert in your chosen field.

The academic partner for this apprenticeship is the University of Exeter, and apprentices will work towards a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions, specialising in Data Analytics. More information on this degree can be found on the University of Exeter website.

Voice & Data

The Voice and Data operations teams working within BT on the EE mobile network, are a collection of highly skilled engineers that support a range of technologies that in turn makes up the network that delivers mobile services to our customers. Anything from making a phone call, sending a text, or accessing your favourite website and social media apps. They are largely invisible but are an essential element, without them we would not have a business. It is an exciting place to be, learning an abundance of new skills and working in a fun team environment here in Bristol. We may be part of a big company but the operations team feels like working for a small, dynamic and innovative company at the forefront of new technology, in a supportive team environment.

As a Data Analyst you will be developing expertise in data mining, looking for trends in performance data, driving in depth analysis in support of the Operations teams. You will develop a detailed understanding of mobile network technologies and platforms, to enable the extraction and manipulation of key data. You will be heavily involved in the analysis of real-time data to enable the identification and resolution of incidents and problems.

We'll also need to see these on your CV

You'll need to achieve (or be on course to achieve) three A-Levels with a minimum of AAB grades, which must include one of the following subjects; Maths, Physics, Computing, Electronics, or Engineering. You'll also need a minimum of six GCSEs at grades 6 - 9 (B or above) including Maths and two other STEM subjects, and GCSE English Language at grade 4 (C) or above.
