Job Description

We are seeking a Data Advisory Specialist to join the Division of Health Informatics (DHI) at MSK. In this role, you will be responsible for analysis, design, development, testing, and documentation of data for systems development projects.

DHI focuses on the interaction of people, processes, and technology to support the exceptional patient care delivered at MSK. We handle a suite of clinical information systems including the electronic health record, ancillary systems and tools that enable decision support, health information exchange and knowledge management. Additionally, we bring these tools to bear to support important programs of care at MSK.

You will:

* Leverage the Enterprise Data Warehouse sources to optimize Health Information Management an electronic charge processing flow.
* Identify, define, design, and implement changes to continuously increase optimization efforts.
* Analyzes data elements and relationships of systems.
* Reviews and QAs logical design and data requirements.
* Identifies and documents application database backup and recovery requirements.
* Identifies security requirements for the application database.
* Prepares initial storage requirements for the application database.
* Identifies and documents application concurrency requirements.
* Determines database growth factors and data access requirements.
* Contributes input toward defining hardware requirements for the application.
* Assists with the potential impact and utilization of new versions and features of DBMS software and new releases of vendor products.
* Assists with impact of proposed new application/database phases or modifications on the current physical design.
* Demonstrates working knowledge of system architecture, storage, networking and advanced technology during analysis phase.
* Contributes input into Disaster Recover, High Availability and Business Resilience architecture.
* Develops and designs database objects and code to meet application/enterprise-wide business and performance requirements.
* Performs Logical and Physical Database Designs.
* Based on application requirements, provides system administration with appropriate settings for the DBMS parameters and configuration values.
* Contributes to application database security schemes and auditing architectures where applicable.
* Works closely with system administrators, storage and networking groups defining overall database application architecture.
* Develops database backup and recovery strategies.
* Provides input into Disaster Recovery, High Availability and Business Resilience architecture.
* Designs database processes to accommodate data movement across multiple DBMS' (DB2, SQL Server, Oracle and Sybase).
* Creates DBMS environments (Development, QA, etc.) based on physical design.
* Creates and modifies database objects for the database.
* Writes required database objects such as stored procedures, packages, jobs/scripts (monitoring, interfaces, etc.), etc.
* Implements database security.
* Assists Developers in data population when required by business needs.
* Assists Developers in developing efficient SQL code. Assists in SQL tuning and optimization.
* Develops an environment to test new features and functions of new releases of DBMS software and vendor package upgrades.
* Assists in development of Disaster Recovery, High Availability and Business Resilience processes.
* Assists developers with testing of the application including DBMS. Prepares test plans and works with development, network, system, QA and operations staff in producing and analyzing test results.
* Assists in population of test data for system and stress test.
* Runs performance test for the application.
* Fine-tunes physical design based on performance test.
* Tests backup and recovery procedures for Disaster Recovery, High Availability and Business Resilience.
* Tests upgrades of DBMS and DBMS related software.
* Participates in Disaster Recovery, High Availability and Business Resilience drills with appropriate follow up and recommendations.
* Tests all DBMS utilities as required by applications.
* Tests vendor package upgrades from DBMS perspective.
* Test all related jobs and job streams.
* Demonstrates good verbal and writing skills and creates clear, concise high level as well as detailed documentation of design decisions, data flows and issues.
* Documents all outputs resulting from analysis, design, development and implementation, problem identification and resolutions etc.
* Prepare storage forecasts for the supported databases.
* Documents database migration and back out procedures.
* Assists in documenting Disaster Recovery, High Availability and Business Resilience plans.
* Documents technical problems and recommended resolutions.
* Documents/benchmarks performance statistics.
* Creates and submits change control and operational run documentation.
* Documents changes to operational environment as it applies to new DBMS software releases and vendor package upgrades.
* Follows institutional procedures for Project Life Cycle documentation.
* Implements database objects between all environments on assigned platforms.
* Migrate database objects to the production environment.
* Implements security scheme for the production objects.
* Assists in back loading data when necessary.
* Establishes database related alerts.
* Implements associated scripts/jobs for Disaster Recovery, High Availability and Business Resilience plans.
* Implements performance/monitoring scripts for newly implemented databases.
* Creates and tracks implementation plans including dependencies, fallback steps, time estimates and responsible parties.
* Ensures that the integrity, availability and performance of all databases on assigned platforms meet enterprise-wide business requirements.
* Resolves DBMS production problems and recommends and/or implements procedures to prevent reoccurrence.
* Monitors storage utilization.
* Monitors database performance for bottlenecks, long-running processes and contention.
* Recovers database when necessary.
* Participate in Disaster Recovery, High Availability and Business Resilience plans if required.
* Provides first line support for all DBMS related issues.
* Provides input to the system Administrator in determining system performance parameters.
* Able to work under pressure and make decisions based on evidence and experience.
* Demonstrates knowledge of the database tuning parameters and monitoring tools.
* Works effectively with software vendors' tech support and third-party product support to resolve production problems and coordinates ongoing production support issues.
* Provides off-hour support as needed.
* Enforces and maintains proper db security and access.
* Works closely with Data Center groups such as security, networking, server administration and storage management to maintain a secure, well-running, current database environment.
* Contributes to database related project planning and contingency plans as necessary.
* Identifies resources, tasks, skills, and time estimates including target dates required to develop and/or implement database related projects.
* Coordinates database maintenance outages.
* Takes business and user needs into consideration for all planning.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years' experience in Information Systems.
* Experience in healthcare environment preferred
* Demonstrates an extensive knowledge of SQL, stored procedures, triggers and DB management/maintenance tools.
* Deep knowledge of underlying OS characteristics and parameters that effect DBMS performance and availability.
* Additional technical skills: Python
