Consultant, Database Engineering - Azure SQL (DBaaS)

Job Overview

The database engineering team supports Mastercard business systems and operations around the world. As part of Operations and Technology, this team member will assist with defining and supporting database engineering practices, standards and governance at Mastercard.

The primary focus for this position will be to provide Azure SQL and engineering support for Mastercard's Track program. Incumbent will guide and provide direction for MasterCard's use of best practices and application of database solutions.

Preferred location is Arlington, VA.

Major Accountabilities:

* Work with business users and application developers to understand their needs and successfully communicate challenges and their solutions to senior and executive management in plain terms
* Proactively monitor and troubleshoot problems escalated by the business team in a timely manner
* Plan, coordinate, implement, and maintain environment/database/user security
* Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues
* Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
* Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases
* Willing and available to be on-call nights and weekends as needed
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to research in depth is a must
* Uses strong writing and verbal communication skills to build awareness and to proactively promote database engineering's position in support of sound database structures, data governance, and other Corporate strategies.

Preferred knowledge and experience:

* Microsoft Azure experience is required
* Azure SQL Database High Availability architecture, DR models, multi-site deployment
* Azure's advanced threat protection to assist with data classification, vulnerability assessment, and threat detection
* TDE to determine the most secure configuration to manage key creation, protection, access control and rotation Knowledge of scalability and elastic pools
* Firewall rules, authentication requiring user credentials, authorization to data through role-based memberships and permissions, row-level security and dynamic data masking
* ADLS for ETL processes
* Performance, analytics, tuning, metrics, logging
* Experience integrating vendor and open source products into an overall system
* Data Warehouse experience would be a bonus
* PowerBI experience would be a bonus
* The ideal candidate will have experience in more than one database technology
