Job Description

The Facility Services Department is focused on maintaining a safe, clean and effective environment for the Laboratory community as well as providing the infrastructure that aligns with and supports the research initiatives in a high quality, and cost effective manner. The Operations & Maintenance team in our department provides the hands-on skills and expertise to enable our stewardship of the facilities. Functionally they engage in the maintenance and upkeep of electrical and mechanical systems, HVAC, grounds, custodial, construction, and more.

Operations Center Console Operator - Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5:00

Job Description:

This Operations Center Console Operator, in the Facility Services Department, receives and takes appropriate action upon calls or emails to the center reporting various troubles, such as, lighting, HVAC, power, leaks, odors, and other facility related issues.

The Operator will also help with other maintenance requests, as necessary, monitor the Laboratory Building Management System (BMS) to include adjusting set points, performing some diagnostics in aiding trades personnel to resolve environmental control problems that may arise. They will also enter trouble calls into a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), create work orders, and operate various communications equipment, two-way radios, cell phones and pagers in order to dispatch mechanics on demand as required. They will also arrange for and schedule security guard support, contact service support contractors, and perform other administrative tasks as required. At times, significant walking may be needed to support other administrative tasks which can include escorting visitors and service support contractors, inspecting fire extinguishers, fuel tank readings and inspections among others.

This person must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with other members of the FSD staff as well as clients. This person will have interaction with many people in the Laboratory community at one time or another in the daily performance of his/her daily work. This applicant shall be a self-starter, work under minimal supervision with good organizational skills, handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure, and have excellent customer service skills. The applicant will work Monday through Friday, starting at 8:30 a.m. and finishing at 5:00 p.m. There are two weekends a year during site wide utility shutdowns the Operations Center is fully staffed and are expected to be available for some part of these weekends and other after hours work.

Experience working in a customer support role is a plus.

An Associate's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls a plus.
