Core Engineering provides desktop, mobile and developer environments; shared infrastructure; quality and reliability frameworks; data architectures; and technology risk services for Goldman Sachs and its 10,000+ engineers.
Within Core, the Outreach and Engagement team develops tools and processes for sharing technical information. Working with teams from across Engineering, we oversee development of the engineeringCentral knowledge platform and the Engineering site. As curators, we ensure that key products are discoverable and well-understood, that high-quality documentation and training materials are available, and that shared practices are communicated effectively. We are looking for Developer Advocates/Technical Communication Leads who will align with one or more Core pillars to support end users and developers with products and practices. Developer Advocates are responsible for overseeing all forms of documentation-from developer guides, tutorials and API references to articles, presentations and training courses-and also play a key part in representing their pillar(s), assisting developers and end users from across the firm, and influencing the evolution of our Core platforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
HOW YOU WILL FULFILL YOUR POTENTIAL• Develop a deep understanding of products and practices in your pillar(s); ensure all product information is kept up-to-date in engineeringCentral• Develop documentation strategies and roadmaps; partner with engineers and product managers to author all forms of technical communications, including high-level overviews, references, examples, tutorials, articles, courses, and more• Stay abreast of developments in key products and practices and ensure enhancements are reflected in relevant materials• Create and lead learning events, such as internal conferences and training classes; partner with the Engineering Marketing and Strategy team to publicize events and to develop and distribute internal- and external-facing content about products and practices• Play an active part in product support forums; assist end users and developers with product-related problems, direct their feedback to product managers and engineering leads• Act as a technical communications advocate and coach among pillar engineers and product managers• As necessary, participate in the development of documentation tools and their integration into the software development environment and engineeringCentralSKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WE ARE LOOKING FOR• Excellent written and oral communication abilities• Previous experience as a developer or developer-facing technical writer/trainer• Familiarity with products in one or more Core pillars is a strong plus• Passion for assisting developers and end users; positive team attitude and a willingness to get hands-on to resolve problems• Ability to deliver against tight deadlines and handle multiple, competing demandsPreferred Qualifications• Experience with developer-facing documentation is a strong plus• Past experience as a developer is a plus
