About the Team
Once a Workday application is built by our developers it is handed over to the Environments team. This is the team that supports the operations of our applications. Simply put, they "keep the lights on" with 24/7 coverage from monitoring the health and performance of the Workday stack, pushing new code to our existing customers, managing the deployments of new services and capacity adds. This role sits on the Tools and Automation team. They create all the tools and systems to help environments as a whole do its work efficiently.
The team is looking to add a SRE to the automation team, to help in the efforts to create a fully automated process for the deployment of Workday applications.
About You
* You love to look at a manual process and use your technical skills to automate it * You have experience operating and supporting on-demand Internet-based systems * False positives are your nemesis * You have strong documentation skills * You are passionate about keeping nagios quiet and ensuring only critical alerts are reported * Building and operating efficient, rock-solid, auditable processes is part of your DNA * You have strong Linux admin and shell scripting * You work well in a distributed team environment * You can multi-task efficiently * You have excellent analytical skills for troubleshooting and problem determination * You have experience with TCP/IP networking from the Linux end is helpful (can read netstat, configure IPTables, do SSH tunneling, etc). * You have experience deploying and operating: Apache Tomcat, MySQL, Subversion, Java web applications, Apache httpd * Ability to write modules in python or other languages to be used for ansible playbooks * Proficient in writing ansible playbooks with unit tests * Understanding of deployment orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes and Jenkins * You have the ability to work some nights and weekends is required as part of the on-call support and production update rotation * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent field
* 2 - 4 years of Linux experience
As a plus, you possess these desired skills:
* Experience working in a SAS-70 audited environment * Deep experience supporting fast-growing large-scale production-quality web environments highly desirable
