Job Responsibilities: Position Overview & Description

This is a key position situated within the Service Modernization team in Seattle IT. The City of Seattle has a rich portfolio of software applications that make use of both on-premise infrastructure, as well as limited third-party cloud services. This position will work towards creating a 'Cloud Right' strategy that aims to make the most of the existing investments in internal IT infrastructure, while identifying opportunities for leveraging leading edge third-party cloud services.

This role cuts across multiple technology groups. Hence, the individual will act as a central point, owning the definition, execution, and delivery of cloud adoption.

Key Deliverables

* Build awareness amongst internal IT teams, as well as client departments on the applicability of various cloud services to existing and future workloads.
* Identify, define and formulate the various artifacts including guidelines, frameworks, business case templates to support a consistent approach for the use of third-party cloud services across the City of Seattle.
* Proactively identify and implement a range of use cases to demonstrate the cloud possibilities.
* Under the direction of the Service Modernization Director, provide input into the City of Seattle's cloud governance and cost recovery model.
* Develop close partnerships with various cloud service providers to identify ways to collaborate in cloud implementation and migration.
* Adopt "cloud-right" strategy to move the organization towards a true hybrid-cloud environment.
* Identify exiting technology stacks, collection of workloads and data platforms for migration.
* Lead design and planning sessions for implementation of cloud migrations and deployments.
* Determine appropriate cloud adoption strategy based on compute, data, or security requirements.
* Perform cost/benefit modeling and create compelling business cases for migration.
* Implement Cloud Governance in the areas of cost management, security, risk, compliance and privacy.
* Identify and put in place formal learning opportunities for IT staff on cloud technologies.

Qualifications: NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for the required qualifications.

* Bachelor's Degree in computer science, Information Technology Management, Software Engineering, or a related field or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
* Deep understanding of cloud planning and architecture principles.
* Prior experience in migrating on-premise workloads to a cloud environment.
* Strong familiarity with top third-party cloud service offerings including AWS, Azure and GCP.
* Strong creative problem-solving, negotiation, and facilitation skills, and the ability to work collaboratively, and be self-directed.
* Able to engage with all levels of an organization, including senior level and frontline staff.
* Ability to move easily between leading, supporting, designing, developing, implementing roles.
* Ability to build trust and engagement across teams and organizational structures.
* Ability to execute, design and deliver an automation solution and/or program in a large, complex environment.
* Proven performance to excel in a high-performing and fast-paced environment.

Desired Qualifications:

* Current AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials Accreditation and/or Azure Fundamentals Certification.
* Experienced with integration of automation using agile software development methodologies.
