Position:

The Department of Technology is the centralized technology services provider within San Francisco City & County government, delivering technology infrastructure and services to approximately 33,000 employees and 800,000 residents. The department has an annual operating budget of over $130M and contains over 220 employees. Core service areas include: Infrastructure and Operations, Technology Security, Service Delivery & Management, Enterprise Applications, Project Management Office, Public Safety Systems & Wiring, Technology Administration, Policy & Governance and IT Public Communications.

The Network Operations Center Administrator II will report to the Network Operations shift supervisor and NOC Center Manager of the Support Services Division. This position will provide support to the growing VOIP Networks and Network Operations Center (NOC). This position will be responsible for monitoring all VOIP networks and server systems platform throughout San Francisco and Disaster Recovery locations. The NOC Administrator II will perform these tasks using various standard network management tools, internal ticketing systems, and monitoring consoles. The NOC Administrator II will also serve as a coordination point for communications between internal and external customers, engineering teams, other operations teams during events which affect the site. The NOC Administrator II will be required to repair up to 80% of level 1 issues.

Essential Job Duties and Functions:

* VOIP Networks and Network systems monitoring


* Incident response


* Communications management


* Reporting


* Monitoring and analyze node network problems, communicate with IS Engineers and other NOC staff, track problems through resolution. and clients.


* Escalate issues in a hierarchic manner to ensure time frames are monitored with a goal of speedy remediation.


* Assist in basic troubleshooting, configuration, recovery and replacement (if needed) of network routers and switches.


* Perform Help Desk functions including call taking, tracking, problem analysis, first and second level problem resolution, coordination and escalation.


* Provide strong customer service and facilitate communications between technical teams and clients.


* Operate IBM z10 Mainframe under OS/MVS/JES2 and batch work scheduling under CA-Scheduler software.


* Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.



Job Type:

The Permanent Exempt - Full Time position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive civil service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer. The anticipated duration of this project position is thirty-six (36) months and will not result in an eligible list or permanent civil service hiring.

Nature of Work:

This position is for a MIDNIGHT shift. Candidate must be willing to work a 40-hour work weeks as determined by the department. This position requires applicant to be available to work after hours, weekends, and holidays in different locations whenever necessary to support the Department of Technology IT operations.

Work Location:

Incumbent will conduct the majority of work at the Department of Technology, 1 South Van Ness, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103. However, there may be situations where the incumbent will be required to work at other sites throughout the City of San Francisco as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Please note, additional qualifications (i.e., special conditions) may apply to a particular position and will be stated on the exam/job announcement.

Education:

Requires an Associate's Degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field].

Experience:

One (1) year of experience performing analysis, installation and technical support in a network environment.

License and Certification:

Substitution:

Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.
