Job Description

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every child-in every school and every neighborhood-has access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school college- and career-ready.

The IT Business Analyst is primarily responsible for supporting the Enterprise Architecture Methodology, Systems and Tools.

The IT Business Analyst will work directly with technical, business and educational staff to understand the current state, define the desired future state and communicate the value and utility of the Enterprise Architecture Methodology, Systems and Tools to all stakeholders.

The IT Business Analyst will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

* With the Enterprise Architecture Manager, develop and implement a methodology to evaluate new and existing platforms for use at CPS


* Be the first IT point of contact for internal partners throughout the CPS organization and investigate new tools that meet business needs


* Define, analyze and document business requirements and business cases upon initiation of new projects


* Provides technical consultation to business partners and IT management to ensure the that the development of new and/or existing application systems use established standards, procedures and methodologies


* Work in conjunction with the EA and PMO Manager to evaluate the fitness of various tools that meet specific project needs


* Draft and validate technical and operational requirements, assess and communicate the impacts, trade-offs, risks, costs, benefits and opportunities of IT solutions to steering committees


* Assist with the development of an enterprise architecture strategy and process that helps align IT projects with business requirements


* Support the alignment and/or streamlining of business processes, IT and business strategy


* Perform IT review of contracts and/or other procurement-related processes and work with IT partners to define technical requirements for proposals (RFPs)


* Provide a variety of services to appropriately position the CPS IT organization in support of emerging educational and operational needs



In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the IT Business Analyst must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required:

* Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Computer Science or Information Technology


* Business Administration


* Certification(s) in Togaf, ITIL, Lean, CMMI, or Cobit



Type of Experience and Number of Years:

* 3 years of Information Technology experience



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Experience with developing and translating business requirements into IT specifications (strategy, platform selection, reference architecture design)


* Knowledge of system development life cycle and relationship of business processes, data applications and technology to short term and long term mission goals


* Working knowledge of systems architectural concepts and frameworks like TOGAF preferred


* Working knowledge of developing and implementing enterprise architecture (EA) governance Ability to work/execute on multiple projects


* Must have excellent interpersonal, leadership, collaboration, facilitation and negotiation skills and be able to manage conflict


* Strong business knowledge or acumen and conceptual thinking


* Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people can understand as well as be able to explain customer needs and priorities in a way that technical people can understand.


* Must be intrinsically motivated by a burning intellectual curiosity


* Must be dedicated to improving the lives of Students, Parents, Teachers and Principals through the judicious use of Information Technology

* CPS is currently not hiring individuals for this position who will now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status.


* This position will require Chicago residency within six months of accepting the position.
