Job Description

Amazon has built a reputation for excellence with recent example of being named the #1 most trusted company for customers. To help Amazon deliver on this reputation for trust the Customer Trust & Partner Support Analytics, Risk Management and Advisory (CARMA) team provides controllership oversight for all of our Customer and Selling Partner businesses through continuous monitoring and audit activities. We do this by completing ad-hoc and cadenced "deep dives" when emergent risks are identified and through ownership of an authoritative metric definition and data source "catalog" for use by supported business teams in their reporting.

We are looking for people who are passionate about helping us use data to assess risk, pressure test controls or assumptions and contribute to decision making frameworks that will allow our business partners to move fast in an increasingly complex business environment. Amazon's growth requires leaders who have an entrepreneurial spirit to create new solutions, have an unrelenting tenacity to get things done, and are capable of breaking down and solving complex problems.

We are hiring a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to help us accelerate our efforts in developing an authoritative data catalog/store for use by our business partners. This person will contribute to the continuous review of data sources and business metrics to assess quality, integrity, appropriate use and persistence. To be successful in this role, candidate must be of discerning judgement, able to breakdown the processes contributing to data composition and extraction, identifying potential failure modes of each process and implement solutions / strategies to prevent or detect failures when they do occur.

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

* Translate ambiguous business problem statements into analysis requirements. Work with internal customers to define best output based on expressed stakeholder needs.
* Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis; data integrity, test design, analysis, validation and documentation.
* Monitor and troubleshoot operational or data issues in data pipelines.
* Review and audit existing ETL jobs and SQL queries and data pipelines.
* Write queries and output efficiently, and have in-depth knowledge of the data available in area of expertise. Pull the data needed with standard query syntax; periodically identify more advanced methods of query optimization. Convert data to make it analysis-ready.
* Own the design, development, and maintenance of scalable solutions for ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, visualizations etc. to support analytical and business needs.
* Learn and understand a broad range of Amazon's data resources and know when, how, and which to use and which not to use.
