Business Intelligence Developer

Position Summary:

The Business Intelligence Developer designs, develops and maintains MedImpact's business intelligence (BI) applications and artifacts. This role is actively engaged in improvement projects that further enhance the company's ability to deliver a full-suite of business intelligence services to internal and external clients. This position also works on cross functional teams across the organization to include executives, engineers, project managers, QA testers, internal business customers. The Business Intelligence Developer receives general instructions on new projects and works autonomously to complete deliverables.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Gains a thorough understanding of functional requirements for new business intelligence requests (reports, dashboards, etc.)
* Works with Business Analysts, customers, and/or requestors to understand and clarify requirements and translate into technical solutions for a working product
* Designs, develops, and performs testing of reports, dashboards and other business intelligence artifacts and functionality, primarily within the Cognos Business Intelligence software environment
* Applies and adheres to best practices in design and coding to reduce errors and ensure robustness and efficiency of work products
* Works to identify, troubleshoot and remediate data, performance, or other technical problems
* Performs user support and issue resolution
* Ensures work product satisfies internal compliance policies and are HIPAA compliant
* Develops and documents technical requirements and solutions
* Documents requirements and maintain design documentation
* Adopts new techniques and technologies
* Assists with mentoring and training of less experienced team members as needed

Additional for Level III

* Assists with data initiatives working with Cognos Framework Manager to design and develop metadata models and documentation
* Working with the Cognos Administrator, assists with application troubleshooting, monitoring, security, installation and configurations
* Proactively makes recommendations to management for the adoption of (1) new technology (2) industry's best practices, and (3) streamlining processes
* Communicates and presents designs in group settings to technical and non-technical audiences

Education and/or Experience

For consideration candidates will need a Bachelor's degree in a related field (or an equivalent combination of job related experience and education) along with five (5) to eight (8) plus years of related business intelligence, report development, data modeling and analysis experience (eight (8) to twelve (12) plus years for Level III). Experience working with Cognos BI is required and experience with Oracle 11g is preferred. Prior healthcare or Pharmacy Benefit Management industry experience is a plus.

Computer Skills / Technical Skills - Demonstrable skills required in the following areas:

* Cognos 10 (Report Studio, Query Studio, Framework Manager)
* Excellent working knowledge of SQL
* Proficient with data query tools (Golden32, Toad, etc.)
* Excellent working knowledge of data modeling principles and tools (ERwin, Toad Data Modeler, etc.)
* Excellent working knowledge of relational databases
* Advanced training: Cognos BI - Report Author, Framework, and Administration
* Cognos BI Certifications preferred

* Ability to effectively balance a high volume of work; detailed oriented and organized
* Ability to appropriately schedule and prioritize multiple projects to ensure timely and effective delivery
* Excellent problem resolution, judgment and decision making skills
* Must be highly motivated, a quick learner as well as have the ability to work independently or on a team driving solutions with minimal supervision
* Must be flexible and capable of juggling multiple priorities with a willingness to do what it takes to meet critical deadlines
* Good communication (written and verbal) as well as good interpersonal skills to effectively facilitate meetings and work in a team environment
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills with emphasis on translating technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Outstanding numeric, verbal, written, presentation, logic, and analytical skills
* Familiarity with PBM business model (plans, programs, and practices) as well as pharmaceutical practices (nomenclature, medications) helpful
* Working knowledge of configuration, administration, security approaches, and performance tuning/optimization (additional for Level III)

Travel:

This position may require occasional domestic travel and attendance maybe required at various local conferences and meetings.

This position is eligible for Employee Referral Bonus at Level II
