Title: Business Intelligence Developer

Role: See job description for Administrative Partner for generic job duties.

Area of Assignment: Information Technology

Position Classification: Exempt

Responsible to: Director, Business & Support Applications

 

This position description is a guide to the critical duties and essential functions of the job, not an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, qualifications, physical demands and work environment conditions. Position descriptions are reviewed and revised to meet the changing needs of the organization.

 

PRE-REQUISITES (GENERAL): 

Education:

Minimum of an undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field is required, OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 

Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years of progressive IT data services experience, including a minimum of three (3) years of direct development experience in using SQL Server tools (SSAS, SSRS, SSIS). Hands-on experience with SQL 2005/2008 database management platform. 

Certifications/Licenses:

Any certifications related to software applications, technology infrastructure and/or a clinical specialization is an advantage.

 

Must be able to obtain Epic certification – if not Epic certified at time of hire, must become certified or have initiated the process of scheduling within 6 months of employment (certification training availability is based on vendor schedule options. Some positions may require multiple certifications.)  

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for the planning, development, maintenance, and growth of the databases that support the Epic applications and the data marts that drive dashboards supported by Epic. This position will Support one or more solutions of moderate complexity, and perform with a high degree of independence on small to moderate projects and assignments. This position will play an active role in complex projects such as software implementations and upgrades as a business/technical collaborator, subject matter resource, and task/assignment resource.

* Ability to contact vendor for support and successfully open a trouble ticket with vendor.


* Ability to create multi-sheet document utilizing enterprise spreadsheet application.


* Ability to complete annual Valley educational requirements.

* Implement physical database objects, manage data, and utilize common development toolsets such as Visual Studio.


* Demonstrate an understanding of dimensional & relational data architecture approaches to real world problems.


* Read and understand data models using various methods of notation.


* Demonstrate technical writing skills and the ability to effectively communicate with customer managers and executives on technical and business issues.


* Demonstrate strong organization, time management, project management, and negotiation skills.


* Performance tune moderately complex queries and data extractions.


* Develop moderately complex SQL and T-SQL.


* Develop moderately complex deliverables in (SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS).


* Provides Manager with a weekly summary of activities.


* Performs project management work to include: current and proposed information flow, cost/benefit analysis, detailed system specifications, procedure writing, SQL programming and testing.


* Creates scope statements, defining size and planning parameters of projects or multiple groups of tasks.


* Prepares detailed work plans and target dates for all projects.


* Performs work tasks according to work plan and within target dates and times.


* Provides complete documentation of all tasks & projects according to dept standards.


* Tests changes comprehensively so that fixes are minimal; review all work for accuracy before submission.


* Provides training to VMC and department personnel.


* Organizes and coaches team members by ability, skills, and knowledge set.


* Leads; develops team spirit.


* Sets team objectives and manages overtime.


* Condenses and refines project development files into comprehensive documentation.


* Provides Manager with a weekly summary of activities.


* Documents change control and system problems according to departmental procedures.


* Advises Manager of potential problems, requirements for expanded services and status of current systems on an ongoing basis.


* Promptly notifies Manager of problems, unexpected tasks and missed targets.


* Responds to all requests according to departmental standards. Assists in the planning and completion of projects on time and as designed.


* Provides complete documentation of all tasks and projects; develops and maintains specifications according to departmental standards.


* Understands relationships between system processes/programs, system parameters, files and data relationships across platforms.


* Listens to business needs expressed by clients and documents clearly in terms of system capabilities and constraints.


* Interprets and validates users request and communicates them to correct I.T. staff.


* Uses standard flowcharting tools and techniques to create and maintain business process and functional flow charts. Is able to read and edit technical flow charts.


* Creates functional definition and documentation of input, output, and processes in high level of detail.


* Identifies and manages complex issues to resolution. This includes identifying appropriate parties and potential solutions independently.


* Troubleshoots, documents and resolves problems, and coordinates vendor support in a timely manner for assigned products independently.


* Builds complete testing plans to include unit, function and integration testing for complex and/or multiple systems independently.


* Performs end-user functions for assigned products.


* Accesses data from existing systems and produces complex, formatted reports using multiple links, complex computations and output files independently.


* Maintains software maintenance and report requests through service center tracking system.


* Ensures that reports, data and devices are appropriately accessed.


* Maintains the security of the Data Center systems and information, per VMC and departmental Information Privacy Policies.


* Actively pursues training and knowledge of new technologies, and completes training programs as required.


* Provides after-hours support as required.


* Performs other related duties as required.
