We have an opening for a computer scientist with a background in cybersecurity with emphasis on using collaborative autonomy to improve cybersecurity of networks and critical infrastructure. You will contribute, provide subject matter expertise and lead research projects in the area of cybersecurity for critical infrastructure systems and civilian networks. You will leverage LLNL's collaborative autonomy capabilities to enable detection and response to cyber attacks and enhance resilience of critical infrastructure systems and civilian networks. This position is programmatically in Global Security's E Program and administratively will report to the payroll supervisor of the hiring organization.
This position will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
* Under limited direction, research, develop and implement novel distributed techniques for solving numerical and optimization problem in collaborative autonomy applications for cybersecurity of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems. * Research, develop and implement novel distributed consensus algorithms to enable collaborative autonomy software to make decisions and take control actions to enhance cybersecurity and resilience of IT and OT systems. * Contribute creative and innovative ideas to making collaborative autonomy software efficient and fault tolerant. * Research, develop and implement control algorithms to enable continued performance of cyber-physical (CPS) control systems while in faulty, distributed environments. * Develop cross-domain strategies for increased security and resiliency of critical infrastructure, working with researchers in other disciplines. * Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition, at the SES.3 Level
* Lead multidisciplinary teams in the areas of collaborative autonomy for critical infrastructure cyber security and resilience, information security, and network security. Continue building LLNL's collaborative autonomy capabilities. * Pursue program development opportunities by co-authoring proposals and proposing ideas that will address sponsor needs. Identify program growth opportunities for existing customers, understanding the customer space and needs. * Present results and provide subject matter expertise across multi-discipline projects engaging with sponsors on a regular basis.
* Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience. * Software engineering experience in C, C++, or Python. * Knowledge and/or experience in parallel numerical linear algebra. * Comprehensive knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following: distributed optimization, theory of iterative numerical methods, distributed consensus algorithms, fault-tolerant distributed computing, distributed control systems. * Working knowledge of and/or experience in control systems, OT and/or ICS/SCADA security. * Experience in high performance computing, parallel programing, or cloud computing. * Ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with contending priorities, as well as approaching difficult problems with enthusiasm and creativity to change focus when necessary. * Proficient verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate comprehensive knowledge effectively across multi-disciplinary teams and to non-cyber experts and the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment.
In Addition, at the SES.3 Level
* Significant software engineering experience and advanced knowledge of and experience in collaborative autonomy algorithms for cyber physical systems. * Project leadership experience and the ability to work independently while effectively managing concurrent technical tasks with competing priorities. * Experience writing research proposals and securing sponsor funding, with advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present and explain technical information, and provide advice to management.
* Ph.D. degree in computer science, computer engineering, control theory or applied mathematics. * Systems engineering, including practical experience in critical infrastructure cybersecurity and experience configuring and using engineering equipment. * Knowledge of one or more of the following computer science disciplines: parallel programming, embedded systems, high performance computing, scientific data analysis, machine learning, systems programming, software engineering, and big data technologies.
Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.
Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.
If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
