Job Description

The High Energy Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a Computational Scientist position to work on the ATLAS experiment at the LHC (position preferably to be located in Lemont, IL but CERN in Geneva, Switzerland can be considered). The Argonne group has significant responsibilities in the operation and development of core software in particular the Input/Output software and event data storage. We are responsible for maintaining this software, including its migration to the multithreaded framework and support for the analysis model for LHC Run 3. The group is also heavily involved in High Performance Computing development and has strong ties to Argonne's Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF).

We are primarily interested in candidates at the Assistant Computational Scientist (Term, subject to funding availability) level but outstanding senior candidates will be considered at higher levels. The Argonne HEP division has research programs in the Energy, Intensity, Cosmic and Theory Frontiers, as well as programs in Detector Development and Advanced Accelerator R&D.

Position Requirements

Successful candidates will have:

* Ph.D. degree and 0-1 year of experience or equivalent; MS degree and 2-3 years of experience or equivalent; BS degree and 6-8 years of experience or equivalent
* Fluency in the C++ programming language.
* Familiarity with the Python scripting language.
* Experience with high-performance computing and scientific code development.
* Knowledge of Input/output and data storage for HEP analysis.
* Solid communication skills, both verbal and written as well as outstanding skill in developing good working relations with others.
