Job Description

VHB is seeking an Application Development Manager to join our Applied Technologies team. The successful candidate will be provided with the opportunity to help build a growing team of diverse developers across VHBs Eastern U.S. footprint, and to be part of a technical services group that has a startup mentality within an established and thriving organization. Location is flexible, this position can be based out of our Watertown (MA), Wethersfield (CT), or Albany (NY) offices.

VHBs passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments.

Responsibilities

* Lead a team of software developers/engineers and provide day-to-day technical guidance to team members on development activities
* Hire top talent on the development team and drive a high-performance collaborative culture
* Provide hands-on technical leadership, working closely with software architects and project managers
* Create and drive the detailed resource planning, scheduling, and execution of development plans to meet business goals and schedules
* Help drive all aspects of the Agile development process, from sprint planning to daily scrum meetings and sprint demos
* Help implement an effective system of project governance and metric-based reporting
* Help define and enforce development best practices, including unit testing and code reviews
* Mentor team members to help them achieve their career goals
* Guide, coach, and mentor software development engineers
* Provide technical leadership for every aspect of software development
* Establish and promote software development standards and processes along with best practices for delivery of scalable and high-quality software
* Work closely with Developers, Project Managers and others throughout the organization to manage the development roadmap and improve our solutions
* Manage and execute application development projects from inception to completion
* Evaluate projects, develop and update schedules, and supervise project status
* Collaborate effectively with all team members and hold regular team meetings

Qualifications

* BS in Computer Science preferred
* 10+ years of solid software engineering background, with experience developing enterprise-scale web/cloud-based software products and/or solutions
* 3+ years of experience managing complex software development projects through all phases of the software development life cycle using Agile/Scrum methodologies
* Willingness/ability to travel to VHBs offices throughout our footprint in the eastern US, including New England, New York state, Raleigh, and Orlando
* Strong track record of building and managing high-performance engineering teams in multiple locations
* A proven track record of successfully delivering quality software releases with aggressive schedules
* Proven record of strong technical leadership
* Experience with both back-end and front-end technologies, for example, Java, JavaScript, Angular, React, HTML, CSS, REST, SQL, Python, etc.
* Knowledge of modern cloud architectures and technologies. Experience with Microsoft Azure is ideal
* Experience with software development, incident tracking and testing tools such as DevOps and OnTime is a plus
