Job Description

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC, is seeking an Acoustic Modeler and Analyst

Job Summary: The Acoustics and Electromagnetics Group (KTY) is seeking an underwater acoustic modeler and analyst to model propagation and system performance, develop acoustic system performance models, and analyze sonar system data. Responsibilities include sonar system modeling, model development, data analysis, and documentation of results.

Duties:

* Conduct acoustic system performance modeling for undersea warfare projects (30%) \
* Develop and maintain models of acoustic system performance (20%)
* Analyze sonar system data (30%)
* Document and present results (20%)

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or other related discipline with relevant experience in underwater acoustics modeling or, at a minimum, coursework in acoustics with exposure to propagation modeling approaches. Ability to work independently. Basic proficiency in MATLAB.

Desired Qualifications: MS or PhD in Physics, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics. Experience in developing acoustic system performance models and comparing with data.

Special Working Conditions: Working in closed area facilities. Occasional travel to support meetings and participation in field test sites, which may include aboard civilian or Navy ships associated with experiment conduct.

Security: Top Secret Clearance is required to perform the essential functions of the job. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for an SSBI and access to classified information. Preference for current SSBI. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
