Join our Artificial & Human Intelligence Research group located in Berkeley, CA, for a 6-month full-time (40 hours/week) internship starting October 2019 and working on AI-Lab related activities. Our close contact to different business units in Siemens provides the opportunity to contribute to and gain experience in real industrial applications. During this internship, you will experience the excitement and challenges of industrial research. The ideal candidate is experienced with the state-of-the-art of rapid prototyping platforms and tools, connected in the human computer interaction research community and capable of conveying the mechanisms of semantic embedded concepts to decision makers from industry by tangible prototypes. The candidate should also be curious for publishing scientific papers and be ready to present intermediate results to exec's and internal stakeholders.

What are my responsibilities?

* The main objective is to understand problem requirements of our customers, to create prototypes, and to deliver revised iterations based on recurring feedback cycles
* Contribute to research projects and develop tangible prototypes. Build upon the state-of-the-art in the field, including generating patents and publications in top journals and conferences
* Fast prototyping, feasibility studies, specification and implementation following rapid prototyping methodologies
* Working with customers to understand problem requirements, creating prototypes and delivering revised iterations based on recurring feedback cycle
* Manage the agenda and participate in discussions of AI-Lab projects
* You will participate in group meetings, customer workshops, discuss with your manager, participate in phone calls and present results to our customer together with other team members

What skills are needed to qualify for this internship?

* A current MS student in Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics. Please note, you must still be enrolled as a student during the internship period to qualify for the position.
* You must be able to work 40 hours a week for the entire duration of the internship (6-12 months)
* Experience with building data-driven systems, AR, human-machine interactions
* Outstanding written and verbal communication and presentation skills
* Experience with design thinking approach
* Excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive teamwork attitude
* Ability to work independently and prioritize work
* Mix of technical curiosity and feel for business relevance
* Inter-cultural competence and willingness to work in a team with mixed cultural backgrounds
